CLINCH RIVER
Whatever conversation had occurred between the military and their new guest seemed to have ultimately proven rather inconsequential. As the Vandenreich prepared to drive in, the air around them filled with the faintest humming sound. It was not loud, at this distance, but it was also not entirely unpleasant. A calm, girlish hum, simply echoing through the air.
Then, of course, came the gunfire. Quite a great deal of it, in fact, as a head poked its way from the tunnel leading into the blast door below.
It was too large to ever be mistaken for human, with a mouth half as wide as the average man. But of course, the size was not the only issue. Its head was canted far to its left, and from the neck simply grew a body that could only be described as wormlike, more and more of that very same face growing, melding into one another, all of it half-formed. Perhaps such a terrible existence might well have been the worst part of all, to most, but for Hannah there would certainly be one aspect of the creature every bit as repulsive as its appearance, if not far moreso.
As it stepped into the open air, the spiritual energy which touched it became twisted, black, unknowable. But, above all, it became hungry. It devoured the energy that it touched, as if simply by merit of its presence. And it continued to hum, even as bullets riddled its pale white body, sinking into the flesh with all the efficacy of a sponge. Perhaps it was impossible to judge such a thing, but there did not seem to be any hostility from it.
Not even as its head simply stretched from its body, the neck elongating at speeds far beyond what most might call "normal" or even "remotely feasible," and chomped down upon the nearest member of the perimeter.
Well, if nothing else, it seemed there was all the more distracting them from the Vandenreich's presence, hm?

Giselle was quite pleased to see everyone slip into the truck without a Fuss, promptly starting the vehicle and starting to drive forward in the direction of the encampment, eyes narrowing ever so slightly as she noticed the strange weapon Liltotto summoned from nowhere, something of a proud little smirk crossing her features. At least before the sudden commotion began to reach a crescendo with the arrival of something...ELSE on the scene. As before their very eyes, a creature emerged from the very place they had been set on entering. A monstrocity that caused her brows to raise ever so slightly, definitely not a sort of creature that had run across her path before. Was THAT what this strange energy was doing? Or was something even weirder going on? She had imagined that all this security was perhaps just.....them trying to DO something with whatever was in there. But well...this certainly didn't seem good either way.
"An opening? Don't miiiind if I do. Buckle up!" She grinned, and promptly FLOORED the gas, the truck rapidly accellerating as the attention of the military installation seemed to affix toward the beast that was emerging from the opening. With a sharp turn of the wheel, she promptly charged toward the first barrier in their path. She glanced, briefly, in Liltotto's direction. Of course she knew Lil could get it out of the way and she was counting on that very fact, but there was no doubt that once they DID make it through, there likely would be SOME sort of attention shifting in their direction. All the same, she only smiled wider, as the adrenaline started pumping through her body in sheer relish and excitement.
It didn't matter how long she lived. She never got over the thrill of a fight.

Liltotto Lamperd
Something crawled out of the darkness of their entryway. One look at the creature that emerged ran to two conclusions - whatever was down there either made it, or was used to make it. Both options were concerning - all the more reason to contain it if some underworlder chucklefucks were messing around with something they couldn't control. And of course the bastards tried to fill the creature that hasn't even a dent on it in bullets... Yeah it'd be best to not catch that thing's attention.
"Giselle-- AND WE'RE GOING, OKAY." Well shit, she sure as hell was about to say 'floor it' but she guessed she didn't need to tell Giselle of all people that when confronted with the opportunity to do so. Quickly wearing out the initial sensation of getting stuck to her chair via force, Liltotto steadily made her way to and opened the window at her side. She would pull the seatbelt and wrap it around the leg she'd keep inside, hardly needing to worry about breaking anything; more or less she wanted to prevent herself from falling out of the truck in the inevitably rocky path they were taking. Positioning herself out the window, keeping her free leg planted on the frame and a hand firmly grasping the truck, the speed the truck was going at was hardly a factor to her as they approached the barricades.
She quickly and carefully calculated the distance between them; She wanted to break down their obstacles, not the truck after all, as getting the vehicle as far in as possible would've been preferable, but there was a good chance of needing to hoof it sooner than expected, but she was certain her team was aware of that possibility as well and would've been ready to run if the truck were at all rendered useless. With all the confidence of a sniper, Liltotto's swings were performed with grace and focus, the arc of teeth-like waves following each and every swing rushing out to cut and melt most anything that posed an obstacle.
She didn't think about what was ahead of her apart from obstacles. She did not acknowledge anything apart from getting them as far in as possible, and any possible detriments. That was the mission. That was what mattered.

NATASHA | HUMANITY'S STRONGEST SOLDIER
Riding toward the encampment, Natasha kept her attention focused on Shirohime as they sat beside one another, azure eyes observing the other two females in front. Everything seemed relatively normal enough - abnormal energy notwithstanding - until a creature so abnormal in it's appearance that it could hardly be considered anything other than alien - came rearing it's head out of the tunnel the military soldiers were guarding.
Huh... Natasha could only whistle level-headedly as she acknowledged that even for a woman who fought her fair share of hollows and demons, that wasn't the type of sight you saw everyday. She couldn't even tell what that monstrosity was, let alone pinpoint an origin. Even so, she was hardly intimidated and her main objective in this mission was to ensure Shirohime's safety.
Giselle seemed to have her mind set and prepared on what she was supposed to do and seemed to give into her adrenaline as she put pedal to the metal and accelerated the truck towards the barricade. Natasha resisted the urge to give into her own excitement, biting back the yeehaw that had threatened to release itself from her lips.
With guns in hand, her primary mission was to pay attention to any mishaps that were to occur and Shirohime's well-being. She could make all manner of cowgirl noises after their mission was complete. Securing the source was the name of the game here.

SHIROHIME | WHITE PRINCESS
There was not a lot to say for the eeriely quiet woman with her five floating orbs of wispy white light, even at the appearance of something truly horrid her expression suggested that her mind was in a state of aponia. There was no concern that she had about this creature, were these not among the best of Cyrus? They ought to show their merit.
That's to say, she was judging their performance by how much she had to interfere and she wanted to ideally only need to demonstrate the capacity of her powers in her role here. Secure the source and take it back for the Vandenreich.
The creature had yet to consider them and hopefully it would remain that way, she just looked at its oddly human-like head and thought to herself that it might've been human once upon a time. How unfortunate if it were to be the case.

CLINCH RIVER
And in they went, the creature seeming almost unperturbed by the appearance of the jeep as it simply blew right past. Quite a few bullets peppered the vehicle itself, but none nearly well-aimed enough to hit the occupants. They'd escaped the immediate danger, thankfully, but there was something else to be concerned with now.
They were in, and it was quite a place to be. A long entry tunnel, clearly meant to service vehicles even larger than the one they were currently driving. The ground was covered in water, likely having seeped in over however long this place had been udnerground. But, above all, there was one thing that anyone in the vehicle could surely notice.
The oppressive, nearly choking presence of the same mysterious energy that could have been detected outside. Any reishi that might have seeped in from the outside was quickly snuffed out, as if consumed by something far more dangerous. This place was, for all intents and purposes, a spiritual deadzone.
And, to make matters worse, there was the barricade of paramilitary forces at the end of said entry tunnel, guarding a door decidedly not big enough to simply be burst through in a jeep, next to a much larger vehicle gate that didn't look to have been opened in quite a long while. Just ramming it would, quite obviously, not be nearly enough to break through, and the hail of gunfire now moving their direction made it necessary for any decisions to be made quite quickly.

SHIROHIME | WHITE PRINCESS
As the reishi in the air became less, she scowled and considering that everyone here was for all intents and purposes presenting as a Quincy it made it quite annoying. She had a bit of leeway but she did not know what could be said for her compatriots, ideally some of them were physically powerful enough to obliterate the obstacle with their own natural reserves of reiryoku or physical condition.
"Someone break it."
She chimed from behind, on one hand she could utilise Seiran but Shirohime did not want to exert herself in any capacity. Even if it would all be a situation of mind over matter, it was hard enough to deny the onset of her own death and the strength of her will was better spent trying to retain and extend her lifespan until the time when everything was appropriately taken care.
Now was the time where she could expect to see if Cyrus' Vandenreich had merit or not.

Liltotto Lamperd
As they plunged into the darkness of the tunnel, two things immediately became obvious to Liltotto - Whatever energy was stinking up the valley, practically engulfed whatever space it could as soon as they entered, and consequentially, no Reishi to be found down here. An immediate concern for at least two members of their squad, but she wasn't worried. Though, she definitely had a sinking feeling that she would be the spearhead in getting the group down there smoothly... Awful place to be a Quincy in, for sure.
And there it was, a job likely only she could execute quickly and surely - A nice little barricade blocking the way down. She did acknowledge the other door as her head peeked out of the vehicle, but by it's appearance the woman guessed it likely didn't lead to anywhere they needed to go, else the military force occupying the place would've had guards on it as well. Already unwrapping her leg, she heard Shirohime's call to destroy it, though she was already making her way out the window and onto the wet, murky floor,
"Already on it," Was all she'd say before suddenly speeding ahead of the vehicle, the splashing of water accompanying her fast steps as she rapidly approached the barricade. Not hesitating, hardly giving the operatives present and guarding a chance to really lay into her, she'd suddenly stop in front of them, and for some, the last thing they would see was her mouth suddenly deforming, and growing in size and length.
And in quick succession, it did not matter if it was human bone, metal, or anything else, her teeth cut through the unremarkable barricade with relative ease, the screams and screeches of man and metal alike rendered silent in mere moments. The barricade was nothing but scraps and pieces in no time, destroyed like a platter of sweets.
No time to think about it, or the awful taste of what she just consumed in her mouth, she'd bolt back to the passenger side of the vehicle, hopping back in through the window,
"All clear."

NATASHA | HUMANITY'S STRONGEST SOLDIER
The mission so far - after the four women had evaded the anomalous creature and made their way into the tunnel - seemed to be going well until Natasha noticed Roxanne and Casanova dissipating within her fingers. Natasha clicked her tongue once she realized what this meant. An area devoid of reishi - a spiritual deadzone. Nothing ever did come easy, did it?
The blue-eyed sharpshooter thanked the heavens above that she learned other methods of warfare and simply kept herself composed, confident that even if she couldn't rely on her quincy abilities, her superhuman strength and a significant grasp of hand-to-hand combat, coupled with a grasp of guerilla warfare tactics, would more than make up for the loss in other skills. There was also the factor of Giselle and Liltotto whose abilities didn't necessarily fall within the realm of true quincy.
Giselle's regeneration and zombification ability along with Liltotto's consumption would suffice in carrying them through--- at least until they could arrive within an area that was more ideal for Natasha. She had a few tools in her pocket but she decided to bide her time and remain within the car. Shirohime ordered the woman to do something about their current predicament and Liltotto wasted not a single moment in leaping from the truck to handle the approaching threat.
Gunfire rained over the vehicle and yet, Liltotto seemed fiercely intent on eliminating the obstacles that stood before their path. Her jaw opened as it grew in length, transmogrifying into a maw wide enough to devour the men and rend the barricade with her fangs, chewing through everything in her pathway as though it had been little more than a morning snack.
Natasha whistled, making a mental note not to get on the the petite woman's bad side as she stayed beside Shirohime, keeping her eyes peeled so that she could defend Shirohime if anything else leaped out of nowhere. Clearly, if this mission had indicated anything, it was to expect the unexpected.

Giselle couldn't help but smile from ear to ear as she made note of Liltotto promptly obliterating the main obstruction in their path. She, of course narrowed her eyes once they finally DID plow through, feeling the lack of Reishi in the air. She briefly considered those little orbs of Shirohime's..... hmmm. No.... They'd have to rely on other things no doubt. Darn. All the same, there was no lack of pride in the fact that Liltotto.....probably? was now the most useful person on their little team.
"Good Job Lil~ Forward we go!" She chimed as she promptly adjusted her speed as they made their way into the tunnel proper, eyes narrowing as she stared straight ahead. With the barrier gone there was nothing to do but drive, and she did .....make sure she lowered her speed just a little. To make it so that she didn't just slam into anything if this damn tunnel made any sudden turns or stops. "anything taste spirity, Lil?" She asked her daughter. After all, she knew Lil could sniff out people with certain qualities. May as well ASK if the men she'd devoured tasted ....spirity. Not like they had much ELSE to go off. Let alone do as they drove into the darkness.
