Quiet in the Library! (Hana/Daniel) Cb6f1c0c-78e4-48bd-8bed-4f09354da99d

It wasn't every day that Daniel had an opportunity to take time away from the world of his stream and the business ventures of meeting up with his adoring fans, but this was one of those times. Normally, he would have been hard at work, hatching the next big streaming opportunity, or the next great collaboration, but today was different. Today he just wanted to unwind, today he just wanted to enjoy himself, and leisurely peruse places to kick back and unwind. Sadly, most of the places that he acquainted himself were pretty much filled with his fans, and with fans came autographs and with autographs came work. Work, right now was the last the thing that he wanted to do. So he sauntered away from cafes, from arcades, and from the hot spots at the mall, even though there was some damn good deals at the places he frequented going on. No, today he would go somewhere no one would recognize him.

The library.

Not that it was a bad place to go, but for a tech enthusiast, and a guy who looked anything, but like your normal run of the mill reader people would more than likely never guess he would come here. Definitely not to unwind at least. Yet, here he was, sitting in the library, and leaning himself all the way back in a chair at a table hidden behind rows and rows of books. The smell of old books and the silent footsteps of people browsing were all that could be heard, occasionally a cough would break the monotony of it all, but beyond that nothing was going on. At least nothing too interesting, still this was where Daniel had chosen to be, mainly because with the silence going on he could simply enjoy, with his headphones on of course, the newest songs he downloaded recently. Maybe he could get some more viewers by making a joke of himself by attempting to sing along to one of these songs?

He didn't know if that was the trend right now, but the idea did cross his mind, and as it did he naturally began to tap the table in front of him with his foot while humming, loudly, the tune he was listening to. A couple of people walked by, giving him frustrated glances as his tapping, and humming grew louder, not that he realized that he was doing it. He was just too enthralled by it all. This beat and rhythm were wild. He began to wag his head side to side and before he knew it he was singing the song, off-tune and horribly timed, but he was doing it by jove! The boy was in his element and he was far too lost, to even realize he was making a ruckus. The librarian looked less than thrilled, but Daniel's eyes were closed, and he was far too gone in his own little world. Far too lost in the rhythm and rhyme.

Off duty, off duty, off duty! Hana’s day ended and she was allowed a couple of hours for break! She knew she was technically always on call, but it was nice not to have to focus on it for a short time. She wasn’t hungry, yet, so there was something else she wanted to do before she ended up back on the clock. It was time to pick up a new book from the library. All dressed up with her gigai on, Hana made her way to the nearest library, her library card proudly tucked into her wallet.

Hana was one to happily browse the fiction section, specifically of fantasy and romance. There were so many more books here than where she was stuck in the Soul Society. It was a dream! She stacked on four, five, six, seven books before realizing she should probably stop. As she made her way to the tables, a noise broke the libraries peace. She thought it would stop, but when it didn’t, she headed toward the noise. She caught sight of some guy, closing his eyes and humming.

Hana walked over and set her books down on the table in front of him. His eyes were still closed, so he hadn’t noticed her. How dare he! This was a library! The WORLD knew you were quiet in libraries. “Hello?” she said in a whisper, waving her hand in front of him and hoping some shadow would catch his attention. He got louder. She could hear the music coming from his headphones. She kind of wanted a pair of those… Hana reached forward and snatched the headphones off his ears.

“You are being rude. This is a library and I am sure you know the rules are to be quiet. Cease your humming!” Hana said furiously, but in a hushed tone and with a furrowed brow. Hearing the song, she leaned her head into the earphones a little just to get a quick sample. She could understand the desire to have sing and dance a long based on what she could hear, but not in the library! Rules are rules!

For a moment, the rhythm had taken his mind off of things, and allowed him to unwind. Sure, it had been in a way that wouldn't necessarily be viewed as welcome in a library, okay maybe in most places this wouldn't be viewed as acceptable unwinding, but he just really needed this break away from it all. It wasn't like he minded dealing with people, he had made a profession out of it after all, but sometimes people needed a break. This was just one of those times. He had been singing for a bit when all of a sudden the tunes were ripped away from him and a for a single moment all that he could hear was his off-key singing and the sound of his foot obnoxiously tapping away on the table. A slight blush came to his face, embarrassment becoming the predominant emotion as he became completely frozen. He made a living off of moments like this, embarrassing himself was a major donation grab, but he tended not to do that so much in public.

He looked around at the people looking at him as his ears caught the tone of someone who was not quite happy with his current performance. In fact, he felt like she was scolding him, and more than likely he deserved it. Okay, he totally deserved to be scolded for his obnoxious behavior, and he cleared his throat softly. Mostly out of respect for what appeared to be a young lady telling him to observe and follow the rules of a library.

"My apologies, I will cease...hey! Those are my headphones!"

What had been a calm and even polite tone that he had began with quickly turned into a rather loud exclamation as he saw her with his headphones in her hands. They were expensive, top of the line, and had cost him quite a fortune to get his hands on, be a techy who loved anything fresh off the line, he didn't like the way that she was handling them. Still, he could tell she liked the music and his facial expression switched from concern with a hint of anger to curiosity.

"Do you like the song? Sorry, I've butchered it all to nine hells."

He said holding out his hand for the return of his headphones which continued to blast the song he had been listening to.

His voice raised and she put a finger in front of her lips, shooting him another quick glare. She listened to the song for a few more seconds before holding the headphones out in his direction. “A little,” she said. “I rarely partake in popular genres of music. I usually get lost in classical music, instrumentals to violin and piano… Anything you could imagine being the background to an opera or ballet.”

Hana glanced around and not many were looking their way anymore. She saw the librarian nod and she merely smiled back before turning her attention back to this obnoxious rule breaker. “There are more appropriate places to listen to music. Why, out of all places, would you behave this way in a library? You must know the rules.”

He wouldn't have called himself an obnoxious rule breaker, I mean words hurt, but he supposed the thought was probably crossing her mind right now. He wasn't making a good impression, something his manager had also scolded him on multiple occasions for, and something he had done a good job with controlling and containing as of late. No PR fiascos, no word fumbles, and no supporting things without doing the proper amount of research into what he was supporting. He had taken the classes and everything! He even prided himself on his passing of that class, but now he was shaming his teacher. Sorry, Professor, Daniel was failing you, but he could remedy that! There was still time!

"All the rules of libraries in general or just this specific library?"

He said, with a slight smile as he reached out for his headphones. He had been taught that the best way to diffuse situations was with humor and since he had failed quite a bit in his first impression he wondered if charm would save him from another scolding.

"Also...classical? I had a nice playlist for that when I'm trying to catch some Z's, not that I've been doing much sleeping as of late."

He found himself oddly mystified that he had not been identified quite yet, but that was half the charm of why he had chosen the library to hang out in this particular day. Not many people in this crowd would know who he was and this lady clearly didn't know him. Though he doubted that who he was mattered when it came to ruining the atmosphere of this library with some of his more stupider instincts or the feeling of embarrassment he was feeling at being scolded by someone who might be his age.

A look of surprise crossed Hana’s features. Was he serious? As far as Hana was able to tell, nearly every library she visited carried the same rule of silence. People were studying and getting lost in the pages of their books. Distractions were not welcome! Hana’s cheeks puffed in a small pout. “All libraries insist that their visitors are quiet. Breaking the concentration of those around you is greatly looked down on!” It was clear that his humor was not something she picked up on.

Hearing his view on classical music, Hana sighed. It was rare to find anyone who cared for the same genre as she did, and this man was no different. "That is expected," she said and picked up her books, hugging them to her chest. "Most I meet are unable to appreciate the skill and creativity that goes into classical music. I do appreciate more modern genres, but none as beautiful as Bach or Wagner."

"Now, I would like to escort you from the building," Hana explained and turned toward the exit. "Come, come. Your lack of consideration for others has deemed you unworthy of the library. Time for you to go." Hana had no real authority here. She was merely wanting such a loud individual out of her favorite place.

Wait, what was going on here? A look of confusion spread across Daniel's face as he stared directly into this young lady's eyes as his joke not only went over her head, but disappeared into the literal void off into the distance. Well I'll be damned..., Daniel's thoughts stated in distress, I guess my teacher is a fraud. He began to panic a bit, the natural people pleaser that he tried to always be, greatly struggling to get a read on the lady in front of him, and almost falling flat on his face. He had to try and recover! He still had his appreciation of classical music for its' soothing and almost angelic sounds that helped him de-stress and fall asleep.

He enjoyed piano mostly, just something about a well trained piano player in his element, and majestically moving his fingers across the keys always was like, well, music to his ears. His jaw almost dropped to the floor as she scolded him for being unsophisticated, going as far to say he didn't appreciate the finer classical music. His eyes began to dart side to side looking for someone to help him out here, to help him help her understand. Damn, two for two! I just can't miss!, his internal voice screeched in astonishment as he shook his head a bit in surprise at how much he was failing here. It almost reminded him of his first stream where a few people had told him to leave the platform.

"You've got to be kidding me..."

Daniel muttered as the lady told him that she would like to escort him from the building. Was he being punked? Where the hell were the cameras at and who had put this lady up to this particular prank? He finished listening to what she had to say and then stood up from his table, grabbing the headphones from her hand in the process very gently, and placing them in one of the many pockets of his jacket.

"You know, I find it odd, and I mean really odd that my joke went over your head. Secondly, I appreciate classical, my father plays piano, and though I lack the talent I've always appreciated the skill that it takes to learn an instrument. The fact that it puts me so at ease, because it reminds me of when my father played for me when I was an infant, really helps me sleep, and relax."

He said as he looked down a bit, adjusting his expensive watch, and eyeing the exact time.

"Lastly, I ain't leaving. I will admit, that I was out of line, and I made a ruckus. However, to judge someone over one mistake, even if that mistake was..."

The librarian cleared her throat, he glanced over at her as she put a finger to her mouth telling him to lower the volume, and he nodded his head, giving her a wink of acknowledgement.

"What I am saying is, people shouldn't be thrown out for mistakes just like books shouldn't be judged by covers. I made a mistake and I am truly sorry for doing so, but the music was good, and I was in my own little world, which I have had very little time to be in as of late. Much like when you read a well written fantasy novel, we all need a good escape."

He said quietly as he bowed his head a bit, afraid to look at her reaction as he had been scolded at least four times today, and he didn't know if his mental state would survive a fifth.

Hana was a little overwhelmed for the moment. While he went on, she noted the joke she apparently missed? The book references, the comments on music, and even the librarian once again having to tell him to shush. At least this time he heard it. And then, seeing him bow his head, she saw the regret and realized he was sincere. That was nice to see. Rarely were apologies she was given sincere.

Hana leaned over to lower herself beneath his gaze since he has his head lowered. Once she saw his eyes, she smiled. “I feel like you might be going through some things…” she whispered before standing up straight again, hoping he would look up at her. “You seem stressed. If music is your stress relief, I can understand that. Books are mine, but you still must respect the people around you.”

“Since you have apologized, as long as you keep quiet, I will not have to escort you out,” Hana said, still keeping her voice low. “If you want to be at the library, why not try a good book?” Hana pulled out one of the few she was carrying. It was probably around two hundred pages and was clearly an adult sci-fi novel with a man and a woman both clad in long cloaks on the front. “Reviews on this one are great.”

At least she wasn't going to escort him out of the library now, but now a new set of misunderstandings were in place. Did he have the heart to correct her on him being stressed out? Then again maybe he was stressed out? He was planning a big stream that would help with relief efforts in Africa via donations and he was trying to get some big deal corporations to sign up to match the donation amounts, but failing miserable at it. Yeah, maybe he was stressed, she talked him into believing it. Looking at her, he could tell she really was trying to help him, and he decided to straighten up. Not many people helped him out these days, most people were asking for his help, or trying to use him to get some rub in the industry.

She seemed nice. Hell, she was probably the sweetest cinnamon bun in the bakery from what he could tell. Still, she was right about respecting others, and what not.

"Sorry again about that, I just tend to get wrapped up in...well whatever I'm doing at the time."

He said, scratching the back of his head, and trying his best to shake off the embarrassment of his previous outburst. While also trying his best to keep his voice lowered, partly out of respect, and also because it was a challenge. He was just naturally loud and it worked for him at times, but clearly this wasn't the time.

"What is this story about?"

He said eyeing the book she was trying to hand off to him, while also eyeing the one's that she was still holding, and wondering what exactly she was interested in. She liked classical music and libraries, which were retro beyond belief, and in his mind he pictured the other books she had in her hand being about knights and kingdoms. You know, the power couple of a good old fantasy novel.

"And what type of books are you into if you don't mind me asking? You know...just in case I'm looking to ever make my way back around here again."

No harm done. His intentions were not malicious. He convinced her that he truly got lost in the moment, so any annoyance she felt for library peers faded. “No need to apologize again,” Hana gave a light wave and then showed him the book. Stories always helped her, but so did dance and tea. Only one was easily found at a library.

“I have yet to read it, but I believe it is about two cybernetic-enhanced siblings trying to prevent their own people from destroying the planet of an alien race. At least, that is what the back of the book says." Hana turned the book over to show him the blurb on the back. “I also read reviews about an amazing twist on S.F.R.”

In Hana’s arms, he could see very thick novels. One was green, another dark red, and the final black with big white letters. The black one was more easily read, as the title page faced Daniel. “Gatekeepers” was the name of the novel; it was also the thickest. When he asked about her interests, she looked at the books she held.

“Well, I am most fond of adventure and romance, usually based in fantasy or science fiction,” Hana loosened her arms around the books, letting them fall his direction, but never out of her arms. “Did you wish to take a look?”
