"Oh really? What's it like on the streets?"

Was he an ex-homeless guy? He probably had a lot of stories from his life not like her. She didn't think she was very interesting but she liked where she was. Less things to think about when you had everything provided for you.

"Well. I guess so. I don't know though, trying's hard and takes ages."

She complained while sipping down another drink and looking at him closely. He didn't look like a guy that tried either unlike her he wasn't even dressed up to go out. He probably tried as much as she did. It made her wonder why he was telling her to try then. Maybe he was being cheeky and flirting, should she try it back?

"Aww yeah, what's the incentive to try though?"

The streets? He did mention the streets, didn’t he? Normally, he’d have been peeved by that question, but, thanks to a few drinks, he just shrugged it off and decided to give her an actual answer.

“It wasn’t much. Just went day by day trying to survive the cruel world. There wasn’t a lot of law enforcement, so you could get mugged at anytime. Everyone was on edge all the time. Things are getting better at least.”

That’s all he really wants to say about that. Even with booze helping him, having memories of his street days come back will still sour his mood. Life really is different when people give you stuff for free. However, he’s not stupid to know that there’s not a price. Nobles have their own problems, which may not be as erratic as the poor people in the Rukongai’s problems, but they are still problems. It’s probably no fun having your own family stab you in the back because of money or whatever.

“Trying is hard, huh? But, once you’ve achieved what you’ve been trying so hard for, you’ll feel like you’re on top of the world. If you want something, you should stop at nothing to achieve it. Isn’t the reward incentive enough?”

He wants a life without burden, but that’s impossible for him these days. Maybe that’s why he doesn’t seem to ever try. There’s nothing to aim for. Maybe that’s why he’s so inclined to try as soon as someone dares him to or whatever. He turned his gaze to Eri and saw how she’s staring. Did he say something? Is she checking him out? He’s not dressed up right now. He just came out here to relax, not to pick up any chicks.

“What do you want, Eri?”

"Oh.."

That was a bit of a mood dampner. Not something she should've asked about while trying to be upbeat and have fun but how was she supposed to know it'd be so glum and gloomy? Maybe she shouldn't have asked about it, now she felt bad for all those poor people that she didn't even know. It must suck, while she wanted to say she got it. She didn't.

"Well I guess so, I'm not really good at goals though. I kind of just float from one thing to another out of boredom. That's why Mama would always call me a butterfly, hehe."

He asked her about what she wanted.

"I want fun. That's what I want but I don't really know how people um, have fun. You know? Like I have fun by myself but this fun.. here."

Now she probably sounded like a loner. Ugh. How stupid of her tipsy mouth to run itself a little too much.

“Butterfly?”

Don’t those things die in like 6 months or something? Well, her mother probably didn’t mean it as an insult. Butterflies are also associated with outgoing people for some reason. It’s weird, but he’s not going to judge why some things are what they are. There was probably some association made down the line in the past. He wonders if Eri is as sociable as a butterfly. As he sees it, she’s lacking a bit in the speech department. At least she has a nice body. That probably helps her despite her apparent lack of brains. Hopefully, people don’t have fun at her own expense. He can only guess that some of these dudes in here wouldn’t mind having a shot at this drunk princess.

“Fun? Well, Butterfly, we could play a game. How about rock paper scissors? Truth or dare? I spy? Hell. We could even make up our own game, like seeing who has the longest noodle out of my bowl.”

He hasn’t actually eaten any of his ramen yet. It’s probably cold by now which means it’s not going to be that good anymore. The noodles are probably soggy too. She sounds like she doesn’t hang out with a lot of people. That’s dangerous. He can’t let her head out on her own now. Even if he is lazy, he’s not irresponsible. How would he feel if something happened to her because he got bored or something? Miss Kuchiki would be pissed, especially considering Eri’s a fellow Noble.

When she was presented with all these options it really left her thinking. All these options to consider, what did she want to play? Something that didn't make her need to think that much but was still fun. That probably ruled out Truth or Dare, imagine what she'd do if dared while drunk too. Oh it just made her blush thinking about how out of control it could get. I spy was thinking, rock paper sissors though?

"Alright. Let's play for a bit, sounds fun right?"

Then she remembered the most important part of a game, the prize afterwards! What was the point of winning if you had nothing to show for it?

"So um, what do you want to do for prizes?"

“Well, whoever wins gets to request one thing from the other, anything and everything is possible… Oh… And, if you don’t have an idea of what you want now, you can always save it till later.”

She’s worried about prizes, but she hasn’t even chosen a game yet. What are they even playing? Maybe he should try his bowl. The noodles might not be that bad. He’s quick to regret his life choices though. One quick slurp, and he feels like he just let a moist worm wiggle between his lips. It’s so cold and soggy now, like a wad of wet paper sticking to his teeth and tongue. The meat isn’t bad though. It just has that weird broth aftertaste to it now. Well, luckily he tried it, so he’s no longer curious. He needs to drink a bit to wash that down.

Now that he’s done with that, his eyes move back to Eri. She ready to play? Their game? He needs to know their game. Eri. Give him the game. He’s ready to demolish her. As if he’s about to let her have one request. Wait. What is he going to request? He didn’t think this through, but at least he added a save option.

"Yeah, that sounds good. Let's play rock paper scissors. You go first."

Her hand came out and she waited for him to join her, it was a pretty simple game but it didn't mean she have to think a lot which made it really appealing to her. A big issue for her was certainly the fact that she was trying to awkwardly get her hand up and ready to play rock, paper scissors.

"So uh, Rock. Paper. Scissors!"

She chose paper.

Eh? That’s the game she picked? He was expecting her to pick one of the more daring ones. Guess she really is a lazy gal. Maybe she just didn’t want to get corralled into doing something crazy in truth or dare. Well, he did suggest this, so he might as well play along. Rock, paper, scissors just doesn’t have much flare to it, but he’s not going to go easy on her just because of that. He’s a sly silver fox sometimes.

As she brought her hand up, he followed soon after, a twinkle in his eye as she began speaking, and he followed suit. Of course, he didn’t show his answer until the very last second, moving his hand barely a second slower than her as she revealed paper. He was going to go for rock, but right before his fist hit his palm, he quickly let his two fingers slip forward in an obvious effort of changing the outcome of the game. Shit. To make it seem even more credible, he moved his hand forward and slipped her paper between his scissors with a sly grin on his face.

“Scissors cuts paper, Princess.”

There was no proof for her to use to back up this claim, in fact she didn't even realise his sleight of hand. Eri, in her current state, was just so self assured that she would've won that even if it was totally legit was entirely would still have evoked the same reaction from her.

"How'd you do it?"

His playful attempt to 'snip' her hand was met by her grabbing it with an equally as cheeky move. Now his finger was trapped in her palm and she could interrogate him to her heart's content. Yeah, she was so smart. No one compared to her genius.

“Huh? Well, scissors cuts paper for one. Also, you hate hard work, so I just figured you’d not pick rock because of it. Besides, you’re a cut above the rest, so scissors would seem a bit redundant. That just left paper.”

He made that up on the fly. Was it good? Did he just flirt with her? He didn’t mean to. He just had to cover his bases, and normally, complimenting a woman helped. Eri looks like the top who turns to mush when she gets attention, not to mention she’s drunk too. The fact she didn’t catch his little trick proved that she’s too far gone to be saved. His fingers are too gone to be saved as well. He would snatch them away, but that might just get a more aggressive reaction out of her.

“Honestly, I had to think really hard just to pick the right answer. I’m sure if we were to go again, you’d surely trample over me. I’ve revealed my tactics. How about we up the stakes, yeah? The winner gets the other as their personal maid or butler for the whole day.”

What is he doing starting another bet? Ah. Guess he’s on a bit of a winner’s high. Well, he shouldn’t lose anyway. If his sleight worked once, it’ll probably work again.
