Rooted [Taichou/Henrex]
Sat Feb 25, 2017 11:40 pm
The months leading up to this point had become one large, blurring mass. A mass that obscured Taichou's vision to the point where she no longer knew who, or what she was. Emotionally, she was askew; for her last meeting with Mirja had not been pleasant, and she was now a half-Demoness with a hypersexually neurotic, overbearing, obsessive younger sister — that doesn't leave much to the imagination, does it? To say that Taichou was overwhelmed was an understatement, so she flat out removed herself from emotion all together. Physically, Taichou knew she'd changed. Her features had hardened, particularly those of her face, strained and matured undoubtedly by stress; and, her long, ebony tresses had been lopped off, settling angularly above her shoulders.
Dawn was approaching, the light peeping through gaps in the curtains of her bedroom. Taichou struggled free of her younger sister's vice like grip, without waking her, and rose to her feet, her bed clothes hanging in disarray atop her refined figure. Following her swift escape, Taichou concluded that she needed a break from the extravagance that was Arianda, and haphazardly pulled on a pair of sneakers, not even bothering to put on a bloody pair of socks.
She hastily made her way down the elaborate staircase that decorated the parlor of Arianda's manor, practically running to the front door of the foyeur before she halted, dead in her tracks. Taichou rolled her eyes, searching her pockets for a spare piece of withered, delapidated parchment; her eyes scanning wearily for a pen in order to scribble out, "WENT OUT. BE BACK LATER. TAICHOU." Upon completing this action, she set the note in the bowl that held all of the keys to the manor, dropping the surveillance necklace Arianda had created for her on top of it, with a sigh; and set out. She wrenched the door open, making no attempt to conceal the fact that she couldn't wait to step foot outside it, before her delicate, tattooed fingers met the cold metal door handle and pulled it closed behind her once she stepped over the threshold.
Taichou's hair toussled in the wind with each stride she took as she headed southbound from the manor. Quite frankly, the woman didn't care to figure out where she was going. She just wanted it all to end, so she allowed herself to wander under the moonlit, foggy haze of night. Her thoughts drifted, just as her feet did, and a scene formed within her mind's eye:
'My goat-hair paint brush touches the barren white canvas before me, in a dance. Colors of red, burgundy, dark blue and grey swim across it, forming a sea. As I paint, I feel alive; my heart begins to fill as the vast expanse of sky transitions from aquamarine to vermillion. The clouds change also, from the purest white to a flaming apricot hue. My hand takes life as if filled with its own intent; and I suddenly stop as I see the tide start to come in. The cold sea fills my footprints and wipes it away as if it were never there. I feel a sudden loneliness.
I gaze upon the reflective water and the dusky sky turning darker. The sun seems to be dancing as if with a twin on the red mirror-like sea water.'

Song: Devastation And Reform - By: NightcoreReality - Word Count: 776
How had he found himself here of all places?
He hadn't been here in a couple of months. Perhaps even more. Europe, the home of his demon...friend, Arianda Vael. A high ranking member in Shadow Fall, that woman had been the one who had helped him get his demon half under control. He was thankful for that, but he had a strange way of showing that. He rarely visited her nowadays -- but perhaps that was his own fault for what he had done afterwards. Taking refuge in the Iga mountains, and training with an old group of friends that took him in as if he were a long-lost family member.
After that, he had practically distanced himself from quite the number of people. One of them being none other than, Mirja Eeola. After the events with Iko nearly clawing his lungs out, he had become much quieter and reserved around the wolf girl. Another would have been his other friends in the Gotei. He had been so devoted to his work in both the limited amount of Vastime, but also the increasingly large amount of work as a Vice Captain with Kuro being a bit...blippy when it came to his activity as a Captain. So, as a deep sigh left the lips of the boy as his feet gently tapped against the ground, causing his body to move throughout the city of his enemies.
Eyes drifted towards his frame, but he would not pay any heed to this. He had no reason to, so why should he waste his time giving them unneeded attention. Pale digits subtly began to curl around the blade fabric of the protruding end of the weapon that sat at the back of his waist. As the moon beamed it's creamy rays of light down onto the world, the boy's mind playing around with different combinations of words and sentences to see what he could come up with. A hand gently came up to his chin, and his vision began to lose it's focus, his body moving solely on the thought of movement alone.
Another hefty sigh exited the lungs and lips of the male, eventually giving up on the thoughts that had been swirling around his mind for such a brief time. A hand rose from his chin, gently brushing at the raven locks that coated his left eye, obscuring all sight, aside from a few whites flashed in between. Reaching upward -- this time with both hands -- the pale fingers of the boy wrapped around the smooth beige of the simple cloak that he wore. As his arms lowered to his side, he continued to walk seemingly aimlessly through the city, his movements were briefly halted for a moment by a casual accident.
Feeling something smack into the right portion of his body, Henrex's body turned to observe who, or even what he had accidentally bumped into. As his mismatched orbs slid over to realign themselves, he quickly found himself staring into the eyes of someone around the same height as him. A woman. Closing his eyes and bowing his head in her direction as a small sign of apology, Henrex soon turned his body once again, before resuming his walking once more. It wasn't until he was around two or three feet away was that multiple things registered. One of which would have been the dual spiritual energy that he felt from her. But, it wasn't the Hybrid energy that he was concerned about.
It was...the Shinigami half of it. Stopping entirely and closing his eyes, he searched the recesses of his mind and traveled back through his memories to try and access where he would have felt that specific spiritual signature before. Faces and memories flashed throughout his mind, but none of them were the ones that he was thinking of...until it came to him. His eyes snapped open, and his body whipped around so that he would be facing now only the direction that the woman was walking, but her back. The name...the name...
Taichou Ryakketsu.
Upon this memory unearthing itself, his body shot forward and entered the Flash Step state, where he would be moving faster than the eye would be able to perceive. Step after step, he would close in on the now Hybrid girl. As soon as he reached within a foot of the girl, his arm reached out, and seized her shoulder, clenching her with a grip that would most likely feel like steel to the Ryakketsu girl. But, this hellishly strong grip on her shoulder would soon loosen, and her body would be turned around, with both sets of eyes ending up staring at each other.
"...Taichou? Is...that you?"

Re: Rooted [Taichou/Henrex]

Taichou nodded, her eyes ablaze with her own rememberance. She spoke, her voice calloused, yet soft, regarding the male, "Henrex... It's been a while." Though much of her had changed, her heavily lidded, red shadowed eyes remained; her sort of, trademark, if you will. How long had it been? She couldn't recall the amount of time because it all blurred together in a haze — she was simple upon their first meeting, and now? Where her Shinigami side was concerned, she hadn't changed much, but... now Taichou was multifaceted.
Her voice continued, "Might I take a gander that you've picked up on the Demon signature of my Reiatsu? I'm... a Hybrid now." She muttered, distaste souring her voice, and appearing upon her face in the form of a scowl; creasing her dark brows, and setting a frown upon her lips. "It wasn't exactly by choice, either..." she trailed off, before taking a step back to absorb all of the growth that Henrex himself had undergone. It was astonishing, to say the least. When they had first met, she thought of him as the sensitive type — a thought that was not to be had now — though it was safe to assume that the same could be said about how Henrex had thought of Taichou back then, too. She was weak, shielded by Mirja Eeola, her mentor, a motherly figure to her, and now? She currently resided with her new overbearing and obsessive sister, Arianda Vael, for her relationship with Mirja as she knew it was on the rocks.
Taichou raised her heavily tattooed hand in order to rub the back of her neck, her fingers brushing against the shaven nape as she did, and before she knew it, the words left her, "Some catching up is in order... I know it's late, but shall we go for some coffee?" Taichou's burning umber irises scanned their surroundings wearily; for she was in no mood to deal with Arianda's shenanigans at the moment — the damned girl was glued to Taichou's side as if her life depended upon it — sure, the eldest Vael thought nothing of it, because it was refreshing to know that someone needed her, albeit that someone wasn't her mentor, but right now, she needed a fucking break, some time outside of Arianda, which she so seldomly got.

Song: Nocturne - By: Katawa Shoujo OST - Word Count: 829
It had been a while. Too long. A tinge of guilt flexed in the young man's heart, knowing that he had mistakenly forgotten her. It was undeniably embarrassing for him to have forgotten her.
He couldn't help but stare at her. It was her, without a doubt. If he were to be entirely honest, he would never have guessed that it was her if he hadn't have remembered her spiritual signature. The two orbs in their sockets glazed over her features, seeing main noticeable change on her, which would have been the fact that she was taller than she had been the last time that they had met. Glancing over other parts of her head, he was yet again quick to notice the change in hair length. A small bit of humorous emotion passed through his body as he figured that they had went the opposite direction with that.
Her hair had gotten shorter, while his had simply gotten longer and longer. But, the thing that made his own hybrid heart to skip a beat was the fact that she definitely had matured during that time he hadn't seen her. If he were to say it bluntly, she was even more of a woman. So, upon instinctive reaction and a flurry of emotions taking the helm of his mind, his body lurched forward, and he embraced his friend. His left hand gently gripped the back of her head, his fingers softly gripping her midnight black hair. The other hand's fingers pressed against her spine, his icy fingers most likely sending chills up and down the girl's body.
"...It's been far too long. I...I missed you. Tai."
The timid words from the boy would be able to show the truth that lay behind them. After all, he rarely was deceitful. Even if he did, it would have been far too easy for her to be able to see through it. As the girl's words flowed from her lips again, Henrex's arms would break from the embrace, before nodding slightly. It was fairly obvious about the dual-energy spiritual pressure that Taichou now possessed. It was something that made him happy by the slightest, since he now had a friend who was like him. But...there was still the points where he felt bad.
The subjugation and hate that she would get from simply setting foot in the Demon World and being who she was...
It was a thought that would soon be banished from his mind. Taking a quiet breath once again, and looking at Taichou once again. She seemed to be doing the same thing that he was. Observing the other, and seeing the changes that had come from them. For Henrex, it was most likely something that would surprise her. Not only were the tattoo-like markings that he had previously now gone, but the scars that were on the entire left side of his body had disappeared as well. Additionally, she would probably notice that he had gotten a bit taller as well. Unfortunately, not enough to rival someone like Mirja, who was around six foot or more. But, it was a little bit of a difference compared to how he was back then.
As her hand made movements on herself, Henrex's hand would as well. Hovering over the small silver zipper that kept his beige cloak firmly held together at the middle of his chest, his fingers would wrap around the item, before detaching the item from his body and folding it in fourths, before using his energy to quickly change the size for it to be small enough to fit in the pocket of his jeans. As he did so, his ears quickly picked up the somewhat strange request for coffee. Despite nearing the time of midnight, and the world already coated in a veil of black, he nodded.
What was the harm in it? It was just a drink. Drinks didn't really have an exact time that they -had- to be consumed. So, with his hand brushing more of the raven locks out of his eyes, before looking at her with his red and grey eyes, the tiniest hints of a small teasing his lips as he subtly reached an arm out in front of him.
"Sure. I'll pay for it."
As his other arm gently bent around Taichou's body, the girl would find herself being nudged by the slightest to initiate movement, before Henrex would do the same. There was indeed a lot of catching up that was needed between the now two Hybrid creatures. As they walked, the male would at least attempt some conversation with the Ryakettsu girl.
"You've...grown. You look a bit different than you did back then. You look even more..."
His voice trailed off. Could he say it? Of course he could, he was just nervous. That was something that hadn't changed about him: his timid nature. Sighing gently, and with his cheeks turning red, the male simply swallowed those feelings and said it. After all, what was the worst that could happen?
"...beautiful..."

"I've missed you too, Henny," she found herself chuckling as she used the nickname she had given him long ago; despite the obvious changes the two of them had undergone as individuals, it felt as if time hadn't passed at all — like the pair had just merely picked up where they had last left off. It was comforting, to see a familiar face when surrounded by a sea of change. Besides, Henrex had always been sweet to Taichou, never giving her any reason to be cold him. She wracked her brain, trying to recall a semblance of a memory that might have proven otherwise. As expected, she came up short.
"Don't worry about paying, either. It's on me. It was my suggestion, after all~" she said. Taichou sent Henrex a wry smile as she felt his arm padding against her slender middle, coaxing her into movement. Her sneaker clad feet were virtually silent against the cobblestone street they were meandering down, in the direction of a twenty-four hour café; euro coins jingling in her pocket as they were jostled together with each step.
As soon as the words, "You've...grown. You look a bit different than you did back then. You look even more... beautiful..." had left the lips of Henrex, blood rushed to Taichou's cheeks, stinging them with a rose hue; the woman so obviously now blushing. Taichou spluttered with embarrassment, words failing her as she tried to thank him for paying her such a hefty compliment, "T-Thank you, Henrex... I like your hair this length, you know." She raised her arm, extending it. The tattooed fingers of her right hand pinched a section of Henrex's lengthened locks, giving it a gentle, yet playful tug as they walked, before returning it to its idle position at her side.

It seemed that Taichou still hadn't changed in terms of how she spoke with him, and interacted with him. Even with her new identity as a Hybrid of Shinigami and Demon, the old Taichou that he knew, all the way back from the Wastelands was still there. So, multiple strings to Henrex's heart would be plucked from this somewhat tender reunion. Time hadn't felt like it had passed at all. It had just felt like they had picked up from earlier in the day. As Taichou's next words would leave her, this would have become even more evident.
"I've missed you too, Henny."
That nickname...
Gods above, he missed that. He missed pretty much anything that she did. She was one of the multiple people that he enjoyed being around. So, as the words were said by the other half-breed, the smile that had been simply teasing at his cheeks would end up spreading, and his hand would move back to his neck, gently rubbing the nape. A bit of blood traveled to his cheeks, darkening the color of his face from pale to red. It was a bit of a childish nickname, but it wasn't something that Henrex was too bothered about. He didn't really care about nicknames on him as long as they weren't derogatory. For Taichou? They were anything but.
So, as they moved on in the direction of the twenty-four hour cafe that they walked towards, Henrex's eyes would divert from the path in front towards Taichou, seeing the wry smile that she possessed, and hearing that she would be paying after all, Henrex simply shrugged his shoulders slightly and smiled a tiny bit more. He didn't really feel like arguing, so he just accepted Tai's decision and continued moving. If she wanted to pay, he'd just let her. As they continued to walk, the faint sound of...metal clattering against one another was quickly made evident.
It seemed that she was prepared for this after all, with or without me finding her. He said to himself, shaking his head slightly as his gaze once again faced forward. But, her words would not be the only thing that had an effect on the other. As his heavy compliment lay in the air, he could see the change in color with Taichou's face, causing his own cheeks to quickly ripen and turn the color of cherries, and his left hand to begin to tighten and loosen the grip on his right arm. It was something that he didn't find himself saying often, but for her...it had just come out.
As she complimented his new hair length, he smiled yet again, and his head turned to the side partially to avoid her looking at his increasingly red face. However, the feeling of a tug on his hair was what caused him to stop for a moment, before turning to Taichou and grinning softly, before reaching out an arm and giving her a tad bit of a rough, but playful push as a bit of retaliation. Turning back to face forward, he found his body drifting closer and closer to where Taichou stood, before his head turned towards the sky.
"I suppose I should keep it this length, huh..." He said, his voice hinting at the edges of a whisper as a hand rose from his side and gently pressed against the side of his head, coating his hand in his raven hair, before he pulled his hand out and let it rest by his side once again. It wouldn't be long now. The faint light of the cafe glowed like a lighthouse's beacon in the dull of night, and Henrex's arm reached out, gently wrapping his fingers around Taichou's hand, and pulling her along. It wouldn't be a rough tug or anything, but something to get her going faster.
Arriving at the doors, and pushing them open with one hand, Henrex would gently pad against her back once again, giving her a small nudge forward to give her a sign to enter, before walking in himself. The two would quickly be guided to a seat by a waitress. As the two would sit down, Henrex would quickly pull out the chair for Taichou, before sitting down himself. It would seem like a strange gesture for someone like Henrex, and it was something that he himself didn't know why he was doing it. It was something that felt...right to him.
As they waited for the waitress to return, Henrex's arms would prop up on the table, his pale fingers interlacing as his mismatched eyes would stare into Taichou.
"So...where should we start?"

"That's just what I was thinking," Taichou concurred, her sparkling amber irises reflecting into Henrex's, a small smile musing across her porcelain face, relishing in the warmth of the café as it contrasted with her cold, rosy cheeked flesh. Her red shadowed eyelids fluttered closed for a moment, her dark, thick eyelashes dusting her cheekbones as the woman inhaled, taking in the scent of coffee grounds, and exquisite baked goods. In a sense, the feelings of comfort evoked in Taichou by the café were very similar to those evoked by Henrex. Normally, Taichou would have recoiled when her hand was held without warning; but she didn't feel that need with Henrex — it was reassuring to her. Despite being nearly left behind by Mirja, and his own disappearance, Henrex was like a pillar of strength for Taichou — something she wouldn't readily admit for Arianda's sake, and we all know how Arianda can be.
Taichou felt holes boring into the back of her neck — the waitress had been staring at her tattoos from afar, sections of the intricate snake irezumi disappearing and reappearing beneath her baggy black t-shirt that hung off of one of her muscle toned shoulders. Instinctively, Taichou raised her left hand, her pallid fingertips tracing the shaven section of Taichou's hair, and neck that was her undercut — defining the beginning of her angular bob, before unmistakably brushing against the VAEL tattoo on the back of her neck. It was no lie that the humans in the area were fully aware of the demoness Arianda Vael's presence, and now, too, Taichou's.
Taichou nodded her head in the direction of the hostess, as if sending her her regards without even glancing at her. "I mean, I've always gotten looks like this because of these," she gestured to her traditional Japanese tattoos, before continuing to speak, "but now even more so because of this... birthmark." Taichou didn't even refer to it as a tattoo as this point; for it marked her rebirth as a Shinigami/Demon Hybrid forever.
"That's beside the point... I'm glad you're here with me, Henny. I hope you can stay, at least until daybreak so we can catch up..." She trailed off timidly, her voice dropping to almost a whisper as a pang of loneliness burst forth within her stomach, causing an inherently lonely feeling to spread throughout the Shinigami Demoness' body.

Song: Glow - By: Lolia - Word Count: 678
The glowing orange light seemed to reflect the two as they entered the small cafe. A small smile yet against played at the edges of Henrex's lips as he felt his hand tighten around Taichou's as the distance between them and their desired location was quickly shortened by the burst of speed that Henrex had put on to get them there and not waste any time. As they were seated, a small sense of calm would flow over his body and mind, causing his senses to dull slightly, while his thoughts remained stagnant through the time that they waited.
However, there were still some parts of his mind that were not sluggish and slow, and those parts continued to process and produce responses to what was being mentally asked. Why had he done all of that for Taichou? Grabbed her hand, held the door open for her, and pulled her chair out for her. In some eyes, people would see that as simply the act of a gentleman being respectful and kind to a lady. But, Henrex had never done anything like that for anyone. So, a subtle look of confusion would occupy the male's face for a few seconds, before passing back into the neutral state that his face would usually be seen in.
Eyes pierced into their backs, more of them burning the symbol of discomfort into where they were staring. As Henrex's gaze set itself on Taichou, he could see that the tattoos across her body, and even the ones that he currently couldn't see were seeming to be gaining the most stares from the surrounding patrons. So, with his eyes drifting from left to right, before resting back in the middle, and looking at the Ryakettsu girl. He was unsure if the words that she spoke were meant for her, but he still made note of them regardless. As her voice trailed off at the mention of the "birthmark" on her, as well as her hope of him staying, it was then that his own demon half would be able to detect what she was feeling.

The loneliness and sadness that was rising in her heart was something that Henrex regretfully could relate to. After the events that happened in his past, and even more so recently with Azela...
It was something that he couldn't allow his friend to feel something so dark and dreary. She did not deserve to suffer from these negative thoughts. So, the male's chair would slide over to his friend, now sitting next to her instead of across from her, and his arms would drape around her, his hands gently pressing against the small of her back, and the back of her head. As this were to be done, the other half-breed would find those emotions that she held would be disappearing. As the crimson particles of demon energy danced along her skin and drew out those feelings of loneliness and sadness, Henrex's hands would grip tighter against the soft flesh of the girl, his icy fingers likely sending chills up and down her spine.
As the embrace was broken, the red orbs of Za Koa energy would drift into Henrex's body, glowing briefly before dissipating and settling entirely into his system. The ends of his lips softly turned downward, and his eyes turned the same direction. As his arms wrapped around her once again, tears would slowly begin to fall from the face of the Raven, his mind recollecting on the memories and thoughts that had just recently come to mind, even after he tried so hard to keep them locked away. The embrace around the body of Taichou would tighten, and Henrex simply whisper into her ear his response.
"I'll stay here as long as you need me to be, Tai -- I'm glad that you're here as well. Where should we start with...catching up?"
As his eyes rose from their focus on the ground, he found himself wanting to keep the embrace forever. But, he restrained himself. With sorrow etched into the corners of his face, Henrex simply awaited what Taichou would say.

Taichou's cheeks became tinged rosily. The words that had come out of his mouth, quite frankly, had both stunned her, and warmed her heart. The question for Taichou that lay before her was this, though — Henrex had never really been one to regard her this way; was it because he had just consumed her pain? Or, perhaps, it was because he suddenly had felt the need to say it? The eldest Vael's mind was reeling from all of the possibilities, but her train of thought was cut short as the waitress who had been gawking at her moments before approached the table, tablet in hand.
"I'll have a vanilla chai latte, please," She murmured politely, a small smile etching upon her features as she turned away from the waitress' watchful gaze; her flaming umber eyes now boring holes into Henrex's face, and tear brimmed, mismatched eyes of purple and red. She'd never really been one for public displays of affection, but she raised one of her tattooed hands, placing her palm against his cheek; her thumb brushing delicately against it in order to wipe away the tears that were falling.
Taichou simply ignored the waitress as she took Henrex's order, and once he'd finished, the half-Demoness spoke again in a gentle, hushed tone; her voice leaving her throat fluidly, like a balm to his freshly opened emotional wounds.
"What happened, Henny? Is it because you ate my sorrow? I'm sorry..." She began, her gaze searching his face for any semblance of an answer, before she continued, in a whisper "What are you thinking?"

In that one action, there was no regret.
Henrex had no regrets for what he just did. In fact, he was content with what he had done. Despite what now ran down his face, that was something that he knew would never regret. His body rested in the chair, his eyes blinked away the crystal clear liquid that streamed down his face. Everything was coming back now. A sullen sigh exited his lips as the back of his hand brushed under his eyes to wipe away the tears. Swallowing the urge to break down, Henrex simply continued to do what he always did with these emotions: keep them locked away deep in his heart.
As the waitress approached the two, and Taichou listed her order, Henrex shook his head for a moment, before he felt her gaze bore into the back of his head. Taking a moment to figure out what he wanted, Henrex soon turned around to face the waitress, his face hinting at a smile, despite how hard it was for him right now.
"Hazelnut coffee for me...please."
Seeing the waitress nod, before her fingers shot away at writing down the two simple orders, and walking away, Henrex's body turned back around, and the tiny smile quickly faded. More tears fell, and the small droplets of water fell off his face, smacking against the wood of the table. It was taking every single scrap of willpower that he had currently not to make a sound. Constantly swallowing the urge to, his eyes closed. The feeling of warmth delicately brushing against his face caused his eyes to open, and see Taichou wiping away the tears.
With all of this new sudden feelings of sadness, the voice that broke through the deafening voices inside the mind of the mostly insane Raven felt like notes of a perfectly played shakuhachi. So, as her words flowed into his ears and floated around in his mind, Henrex heard each and every designation that she spoke would be heard in it's entirety. His facial expression switched from neutral to crestfallen, and his head lowered.
"Don't apologize. If anything...I should be apologizing. It's better that you are happy, rather than suffer. What am I-.."
As he began to repeat the question that Taichou had asked him, his voice became caught in his throat, his eyes welling with tears again as more and more memories unearthed themselves from the recesses of his mind. Memories that he desperately wanted gone from his mind, but just as desperately wanted to keep them so that he wouldn't forget about the ones those memories were about. His head slowly began to tilt towards the table, his tears staining the wooden table again.
"Azela -- is -- gone..."
Those three words were the only thing he was able to choke out, his throat tight with the grief of abandonment. There was no warning, or anything of the sort. Azela had just...left. She had left the apartment he had bought for him, and had cut off communication with him. There were so many questions that he had asked himself when this happened.
What had he done wrong?
Where did she go?
Those were only a few of what he had asked. Afterwards, he had forcibly hardened himself, and hid his grief. He had proceeded to do everything he could to keep his mind off of it, and go back to the way that he had been before.
But, he knew that he never could.
That feeling would stay in his heart forever. So, it was why upon eating the sorrows and negativity of the Ryakettsu girl, those feelings were reawakened. His hand moved to his eyes to wipe them for what seemed to be the umpteenth time, before his head lowered. It was now up to Taichou on how these emotions would be received.
