Artist:Pentakill - Song:Lightbringer- Word Count: 1279
The air was thick with corruption, whatever strange force that assaulted this place leaving quite the mess behind. The entire city smelled of death, debris and ruin in every direction for miles. With each step one took, the taste of the wicked essence grew stronger, and who knew how potent it would be at the heart of it all. But that is exactly why he was here in the first place, to unravel that mystery and put an end to just another bit of madness that had overtaken the world. On the top of tall, cracked and lifeless buildings that overlooked the city stood a single man. Twin scarves blew behind them from the desolate wind passing by. Their green eyes scoured the landscape below, seeing far deeper into the soul of this tragedy than most, and not just from how high up they were standing. Their hand rested gently on one of their twin blades, looking for any signs of creatures or other unusual creations.

The tainting energy was toxic, sticking to him like glue and trying to infect him like the others. The man was already far in the center of the city, the vile power that resonated within being some of the most dangerous and corrosive. Fortunately, the young man was more than equipped to handle these sorts of things. Though a sigh did escape him, looking over the ruin and pondering just what this kind of power must have done to the people that lived here. Even decently potent souls could find themselves being overtaken n a place like this, but that is why someone like Dellapero had come. As one of the best Humanity had to offer against the tides of chaos, to crush it and shatter this darkness with a beacon of light.

"Jeez, they weren't kidding about this place. And not a single person saw what happened?"

The man shook his head, finding that a little hard to believe. This was Shadowfall's territory, so they were probably holding something back. Hell, odds were they were the source of this incident in the first place. In any event, the lone hero had a job to do, to bring an end to this corruption, ensure it never happens again, and save as many as possible, if any souls even remained in this wasteland of corrosion. He walked to the edge of the rooftops, looking down on the streets below. The corruption was thickest there, a miasma of it overtaking the streets and the buildings, one that only got denser the farther down the road you ventured.

Dellpero unsheathed his sword and leaped right into the heart f it, falling right into the veil of darkness and the streets below. A word left his mouth as he descended, holding his blade toward the ground like he was poised to strike it.

"LIGHTBRINGER!"

An explosion of energy rippled from the swordsman's body as the bulk of his power was brought forth in a single move! His feet touched the ground, sword plunging into the earth as it transformed! The ordinary katana grew, the curvature shifting from a sharp bend to the flat edges of a bastard sword in his grip. It easily cut the ground, plunging several feet deep in the earth and absorbing the impact of his fall. Bright white light rippled out from his position, beams of energy piercing the miasma for miles and breaking it apart! The explosion expanded outward, destroying any corruption around him, both in the streets, the underground, and even some of the buildings close by. The foulness that polluted this Earth had no place there, and the blade in his hand would serve as a tool to break it apart and restore this place to what it once was.

Sparks of green crackled around Dellapero's body as well, his blood pumping and reacting to the adrenaline coursing through him. His muscles tensed against the weighted cloth around his flesh, already preparing him for battle when he found the core of this destruction, The white sword plunged into the earth released a constant veil of purifying holy power, breaking apart and purifying any corruption that dared to even come close. As soon as the energy reached a twelve-foot area around the man, it would rapidly break down and be destroyed, leaving a small space around him completely free of that corrosive darkness.

The Human warrior pulled his sword from the ground, looking ahead. Even if the miasma got thicker and the corruptive energy got stronger, so long as he wielded this power with conviction, it wouldn't slow him down or get in his way. The space around him was a beacon of opposition to whatever had befallen this place. With his sword armed and ready, Grance marched onward, the barrier moving alongside him and destroying any loose darkness that defiled the road. However, this power had a limit. The areas he purified when he first unleashed this potent power were consumed by the very corruption that was free from the moment they left the center of origin. Just clearing an area wouldn't solve this. The only way was to eradicate the source

The former Vanguard Operative watched the area very carefully with his enhanced senses, prepared to fight at the drop of a hat. If he could find anything or help anyone, his venture here would be worth it. The buildings all seemed desolate and abandoned. Yet he swore he could hear stirring in the distance. The loud eruption of energy was sure to do one of two things. Either scare any agents of the shadows away or draw them closer than ever now that there was a real threat roaming the empty streets. Each step he took crackled with green lightning, his body improving itself rapidly even before a single threat appeared, reacting on his frustration and sorrow that flooded his veins from looking upon such devastation. It was sickening, but it was far from unfamiliar to him at this point. He had seen worse from the numerous wars he'd been in before. The thoughts of their failures at Iceland and the thousands that died during the invasion on the moon still lingered in his mind. But that just served to reinforce how important it was for him to come here at times like these and rectify things before another horrid incident took place.

So the man walked, moving deeper and deeper into the heart of corruption until he found something, or something found him...

ENTER THE FLUFFY WOLF

Artist: N/A - Song: N/A - Word Count: N/A

Current Form reference

The air, was thick, and heavy. And an ominous feeling filled the streets that were walked by the human, Dellapero. Something, was out there, and that something, was coming. It was sudden, and yet slow, as the monster of a thing padded out from a nearby broken building, and then stared at the human for some moments. It was quite a beast to behold. Four meters tall at the shoulder, and big. This thing would easily top nine hundred pounds of muscle. And the teeth, like knives. There was also a strange mask on it's forehead, hard to see as it's black colour blended with the black fur to a good degree. It stared at Dellapero, and then slowly walked over to him. The muzzle of the giant wolf-creature was certainly ominous, but the slow pace implied it was not here to make Dellapero dinner.

And so, when it got to him - an incredibly thick and heavy Reiatsu emitting from the beast, as if someone had grabbed the gravity knob and twisted it to be several times higher than the norm - it would bend down and, try to lick him. The wolf could think of no better way to show that it was not here for a fight, but to protect the people of the city, what was left of them. And then it sat down, and growled, gesturing with it's head to the copious back that it possessed. Apparently, Dellapero was going to get a Wolf to ride into the city, looking for danger and what was left to rescue. Not that he would know it at the time, but The Wolf would certainly do the same as any normal horse and allow him a much faster ride around the ruined city.

Dellapero watched the strange creature as they approached, trying to gauge their intent. Though not clear at first, the fact they didn't burn in the presence of the veil was proof they weren't connected to this corruption. And with that friendly lick? It was enough for him to see that this was just some weird giant fluffy doggo with some facial issues. He reached his hand out and pet the creature's head, scratching their ears.

"Pupper! What are you doing out here? This is a danger zone! Well, I guess it can't be helped by now. Just stay close and you'll be fine. "

He stared at the beast for a moment as they made their offer. Riding a war-hound into battle could be pretty cool, wouldn't it? Acting purely on instinct, he smiled and hopped right onto the creature's back. His body seemed weightless as he did so, going back to gently patting the giant canine's head shortly thereafter.

"We need to head in that general direction! So long as I'm here, things should be fine.
"

He pointed to the heart of the city where the miasma grew thicker, becoming more potent the farther you looked in. But so long as the power of the Lightbringer was present, it wouldn't even touch them.

It was almost completely destroyed.

The center of the city was full of nothing but collapsed buildings, destroyed sidewalks, exploded cars, and black moss-like substances that seemed to be eating away at whatever they were growing on. The energies of corruption and death were so thick and potent in this part of the city that it would prove a struggle to anyone who wasn't particularly resistant to these energies or had a strong enough source of energy to counter it naturally.

However, that wouldn't be the only issue in this situation. From the rubble in the distance emerged humanoid figures, but they were not human, nor were they even alive. These were the Abyss' finest monsters, ones that had intellect, yet were not entirely sentient. They had a mind of their own, but not separately from the Abyss itself. They were its defenders, its legion of guardians whose sole purpose was fighting off people that got close to its core. They had no reason to mask their energies, which were the same as the corrupting energies around them, only more controlled. Their power was equal to that as a 1-3, and should Dellapero and his canine friend make any sort of move, they would be on them like flies. For every single one that died, another would take their place moments later. They were endless and would not stop until both Mirja and Dellapero were dead. And on top of that, they weren't stupid. While not being particularly intelligent, they were smart enough to avoid cheap tricks while also having the ability to project beams and blasts of energy using their swords. Their efforts would be coordinated, and it would take Mirja and Dellapero's finest efforts if they wanted to reach the center of this catastrophe.

They didn't get to go very far before the servants of the void finally showed themselves. It was hard to see at first, shadows in the distance that loomed by the ruined towers. There were dozens, maybe hundreds for all one could tell. To Dellapero's trained and augmented eyes, he could make them out every detail even through the thick miasma of corrupt energy. A small army of skeletal monstrosities. Whether born from the dead victims of this city or a creation of the abyss itself, they were beyond anything the swordsman's divine light could salvage. He shook his head, leaping from his briefly mounted war-hound and taking a stand on the cracked and withering road. The sphere of purified space remained around him, a force that would slowly burn away any corruption that got too close. But these creatures? They were far more concentrated than anything for miles, each nearly sharing the strength of Vice-Admirals. His hand tightened around his white bastard sword, thinking very briefly about the situation at hand. Their numbers didn't seem too imposing, but they weren't completely helpless fodder either. The green energy flowing around his feet began to build, rising up and slowly encompassing his entire body in a faint, green glow.

"Alright, I should be able to handle this. ..Probably.."

The Human focuses his energy, feeding it into his body and forcing it to adapt faster than ever. The serene green glow encompassing him expanded, becoming more intense and swirling in a spiral. Electricity crackled violently around him, the ground quivered beneath him as he focused and allowed his strength to manifest. His eyes were locked dead ahead, watching the legion of skeletal abominations closely. The spiral of green continued to grow, casting a vibrant light into the mass of shadows that made up this ruined city. His muscles twitched, expanding ever-so-slightly from the powers at work. He didn't have time to waste, and with this many foes? He could afford to waste a little energy to speed things up. Several minutes worth of progress happened all at once, his body pushing itself to operate at the next level, even with the heavy weights slowing him down. The spiral compressed, reaching a finite point. It reached its apex, pushing him as far as he could go purely on his own merit. The veil erupted outward in a small, but powerful explosion of force. The ground shattered beneath his feet and new crack would form in the ruined structures nearby. The warrior took in a deep breath, only a dull glow remaining around his body. His iris took on the shape of an emerald spiral that drilled straight ahead, aiming toward anything that stood in his path.

"That should do it."

Dellapero muttered to himself, opening and closing his free hand a few times to feel his own strength. It was nothing earth shattering yet, but it didn't need to be. The greatsword in his hand continued to give off its vibrant glow, the power behind it grander than ever before. Adjusting his legs, the young man got in a stance, prepared to move and take on this hoard without hesitation. The only question left in his mind was which to start with and come to grips with what he was up against. It was hard to tell their exact numbers. But once he got started thinning them? It would just be an uphill battle from there!

The swordsman kicked off the ground, dashing right into the center of the hoard with reckless abandon. The darkness around him burned away as quickly as he walked through it, his very presence opposing and destroying the essence that lingered around him. Those eyes kept track of every single one of them, eyes focused and ready for the hectic battle to come. His body blurred with every step, moving faster than the average fighter could see, but fortunately, these ghouls were a little better than that. He caught wind of their counter-attack. Some charged, while a good number stood back and gathered energy in their blades. Grance reached for his second sword, waiting for just the right moment to act. Several beams of piercing purple light shot at him from all sides, the sheer number of them enough to overwhelm most foes. Nearly two dozen beams of destructive energy rushed toward the charging warrior, moving in perfect sync with the soldiers to leave no avenue of escape. But there didn't need to be one!

The man drew his second sword, calling upon the power of the Lightbringer once more as he twisted his body! A vibrant holy light spilled around him, the divine presence intensifying and expanding the range of the veil of divine light around him. The moment those beams entered the center of origin? Their power would be -immensely- reduced. In fact, each blast would barely be a third of its normal strength! Attacks like these were just what the veil was intended to deal with, gaining an edge on almost every front. That didn't change how overwhelming the sheer number of attacks was! But to a fighter like him, it was irrelevant. He spun around, arms outstretched! In the blink of an eye, he turned all of his momentum around, creating a new spiral of his own rapid motions! He had become a living tornado, the holy blades each creating two sides of a saw blade that would cut anything and everything tat got close to him! A fearsome wind rolled through the battlefield, weak buildings giving from the pressure and starting to fall apart.

Every beam that entered the tornado's range was easily destroyed. They never had any chance of passing it, even with their full strength in tact But even with that threat gone? The human twister didn't stop. In fact, it moved forward just as fast as the man was running beforehand! The storm of steel crashed right into two of the minions that rushed him! But there was never an impact..In fact, it seemed like it had passed right by them without so much as leaving a scratch! And that was because it didn't. The blades moved right through the specters like a ghost, the man behind them barely squeezing between them and avoiding their own blades as they rushed down upon him. Despite not a single cut appearing on the monster's flesh? They'd both fall to the ground, releasing their weapons. While the swords in his hand couldn't cut, each time they connected, they stole a large sum of energy from their target. With how fast the swordsman was spinning? Both emissaries of the abyss were slashed more than two dozen times before they were out of range. And that was more than enough to drain them of every shred of energy they had in them!

The corrupt power flowed into the twin blades, purified dozens of times over from their holy light. The twin swords glowed brightly, the raw energy they just absorbed drawing into Dellapero's body and feeding him. The two soldiers were more than enough to just restore the energy he lost speeding up his evolution. They gave him a fair excess to work with as well! And that was only going to make things that much easier for him. It would take a moment to kick in though, so he continued onward. The spiral of blades ended, his spin quickly coming to a close and coming together with him darting forward normally, right into the heart of the hoard. Though as he charged forward, his eyes noticed something in the distance. Additional minions were rising up from the ground, replacing the soldiers that were defeated moments later! That could be troublesome, but it didn't take long for an idea to arise in his head. Whatever was responsible for this mess must have been conjuring them.So all he had to do was sever that tie and finish the job as quickly as possible before more could be reforged!

Fortunately, their numbers also played to the swordsman's advantage. His talents were especially useful when it came to overcoming numerous weaker foes like these. Unlike most fighters? It was difficult for him to tire since he was always drawing on more energy from his foes. So it just a matter of ensuring he was never overwhelmed. The distance between them severed, the legion gathering energy along their blades for another barrage of attacks. The Human tightened his grip on both words, darting right into the fire. He had no need to dodge against foes like these, but only needed to break through their offensive! Giant blasts of corrupted energy ripped apart the earth, darting right for the charging warrior. Simple powers like these were practically useless against the Lightbringer! The twin swords cleaved right through the storm of energy, destroying them completely as they carved through. Ripples of destructive energy flowed from the point of contact, breaking the landscape and creating another small shockwave that spilled through the streets.

Then the energy from a moment ago finally started to flow into Dellapero's body. A surge of power erupted from him, a pillar of white rising up from the excess of energy coursing through his veins. It only continued t grow, purified spiritual pressure contending with the giant walls of corrupted power that flooded the city. His entire being had a constant glow, his every aspect seeming more vibrant and pronounced. He smiled, knowing it was only uphill from here. It not only gave him more energy to work with, but pushed his already impressive strength and fearsome speed another level higher! A sonic boom erupted with his next step, the distance between the next two skeletal creatures and the invader becoming nothing. The minions moved to strike with their blades, but they were too slow to contend with him like this, and that would be their downfall. No matter how many there were or how coordinated they could be, without the speed to at least contend with this pace? It was hopeless for the creatures of darkness. He ducked beneath their swords, slashing through them with his own while twisting his body in a spinning arc. Like before, he rapidly evolved into a tornado of steel, those divine blades phasing through their skeletal forms dozens of times in the blink of an eye and severing all the energy from their body! They'd fall flat, left not a drop of energy left in their body.

He slowed to a stop, standing still as the next two fell behind him. His energy was burning up fast from all f it being used at once to strengthen his body to a new level, but with a constant source of new power to drain? It miles have been limitless. Their numbers were their downfall. There wasn't much of a way around it either. This wasn't some trick, but a combination of pure power and speed that would only increase more and more with each fallen warrior. Seeing no other option, the swarm rushed in against him, deciding to go with a blunt melee approach after their attacks were so easily dealt with each time before. Dozens were on the move, closing in fast with their blades drawn and poised to strike. This last barrage would be enough to finish it... As they got closer, the swordsman readied himself to strike. The second wave of power burst from his body, the energy from the most recent two pushing him even further above his natural limits and creating an immensely powerful aura around him.

The next few moments passed in a matter of seconds, but it seemed like an hour to Grance. Blades lunged at him from every direction, but rather than focus on dodging? He attacked. His body moved right into the range of several raining blades, their metal cutting into his skin and drawing blood. But they were shallow cuts, barely able to make it far with how dense his flesh had become from the extra power surging through it. In exchange, several more would meet the fate of those before them. the giant swords cleaved through their skeletal forms, one after another. It was a dance of precise strikes and raw force, one soldier falling after another. More were rising up, but the swordsman was taking them out faster than they could respawn!! More and more of their energy surged through his veins, the thick veil of energy only getting stronger and stronger by the second! It was the most energy his body had contained in ages, every movement corresponding to a wave of overwhelming might that created larger shockwaves with each swing of those enormous blades. While a few more cuts met his flesh here and there, none of them were all too serious. And once enough energy had been harnessed? It was time to end this.

After the last warrior of darkness fell and the next wave was about to respawn, Dellapero raised his blade into the air, focusing all of that extra power into it at once! The white steel glowed blindingly, overflowing with purifying energy. He had more than enough power to accomplish his goal now, and it was thanks to the very minions of the abyss that it was possible! The sword plunged into the ground, all of that power unleashed into the earth at once! The world quivered as an immense amount of energy erupted from the ground, spilling out for miles! It was much like the veil that encompassed him, but yet so much stronger at the same time! It spilled out for miles, any traces of corruption being completely and utterly eradicated when they come into contact with the flash of light. The influence of the Abyss would be purged from the area and for a long distance to come. Beams of light shattered the field of miasma, clearing the way and hopefully bringing the invasion of monsters to a halt! This was no longer their land, and anything bringing them to life would have that connection severed! To most, the wave was harmless, a cool surge of energy that washed over them and rid their body of impurity. But for these monsters? it would be agonizing if any remained, the corrupt essence inhabiting them being rapidly burned away and turned to dust!

The swordsman kept feeding more and more energy into it, wave after wave of purifying light surging forth and destroying every trace of the abyss in sight. Of course, the range was limited and it wouldn't be able to cure the entire city or even a good chunk of it. But the path leading into the core where this whole mess originated would be completely cleared! At least for a short time. Once the last drops of extra energy were released, he pulled his blade from the earth and sighed. He wiped some sweat from his forehead, a little tired from releasing all that power at once. He may have had virtually limitless power to work with, but controlling that much power still took a toll on his body. He took a moment to look around, searching for any stragglers if there were any...Though after an explosion like that? They'd be out of commission for a little at best.

Dellapero returned to the road, getting a grip on himself after that high-speed, but brief confrontation. He was just not the type of opponent these things wanted to fight. His powers were designed to combat corruption, after all. He gestured his hand toward the wolf on the sidelines, if they were even still around.

"Come on pupper. Not sure how long the coast will stay clear, and I want to get this done sooner than later."

With that said, the man continued down the road as he had been before, the path completely clear of the influence cast from the abyss for a fair ways ahead...But in the long distance, one could still make out that ever-present darkness as it slowly surged forward and tried to reclaim what was stolen from it...But by the time it did? They'd hopefully be in the core of the source where that trick could be used again to purge it completely and liberate this place from further anguish.
