THE QUINCY TEMPLATE

The Soldier Quincy

I. Jonathan Weber

» Age: 24
» Gender: Male
» Affiliation/Rank: Vandereich

Jonathan Weber [APPROVED, 4-2, HAZARD RANK D] 309307
Jonathan is 5'9 and 150 lbs

II. Personality Traits

» Thrill Seeker: One of Jonathan’s most defining traits, born of a plodding childhood and early adulthood. The newly born Quincy is an unapologetic thrill seeker, constantly searching for new things to challenge and overcome. Jonathan will throw himself recklessly into the heart of combat and volunteer for the most dangerous missions, partly for the thrill it gives.

» Puzzle Solver: A trait made manifest by his conduct both on and off the battlefield. Whether it is his enemies’ power-set or a simple 300-piece puzzle, Jonathan often tries to break down and analyze such things to find out what’s under the hood. This is not to say he is some hyper-intelligent god, waiting in the wings until he has some foolproof plan that is sure to kill his opponent, quite the opposite. Jonathan is simply more analytical than most, trying to find a way under or around a looming wall rather than plowing straight through it with sheer power.

» Optimist: A trait that sets Jonathan apart from many other spiritual beings in his position. The newborn Quincy is an optimist, preferring to see the good in people and situations rather than brooding over it for days. He is accepting of his own and other’s failures, preferring to try again rather than obsess over it. This trait often pushes him to try and help his comrades move past their failings, counseling them and allowing them to move forward. Jonathan sometimes struggles with the paradox between his trauma and his optimism, the contradiction often causing him to break down for a time before he decides to move forward once more.

» People Person: Jonathan has always enjoyed the company of others, his puzzle solving nature and optimism making such interactions fascinating for the young Quincy. The Quincy possesses a natural charisma that allows him to quickly ingratiate himself with new acquaintances, and the openness to match.

» Reckless: As one would probably expect, Jonathan is often quite reckless, taking far more risks than is absolutely needed. His personality and mindset in battle make him far more of a risk-taker than many would expect of a Quincy, as they are primarily long-range combatants. This is especially evident in a situation where he is severely outmatched, as he will often implement strategies that offer great risk of injury or maiming, solely to overcome his foe.

» Stubborn: Jonathan does not give up easily, this much should be obvious after the first conversation one has with him. His is not the stubbornness of one repeatedly trying the same solution in hopes of different results, but rather the belief that everything has a solution if you look hard enough. This stubbornness often causes him to extend a situation far past where a normal person would have given up, as he continually tries new strategies and tricks to overcome whatever obstacle is in his way.

» Hidden Trauma: Despite his optimistic and social personality, and every appearance of stability, Jonathan still carries great trauma with him. The Hollow attack on his base was a nightmare, slaughtering all his friends, his family, without exception. He too, would have died, if he was not saved, and this fact is rather difficult for him to get past. In quiet moments, when he thinks he is alone, he often relives flashes of that day.

III. Character History

Jonathan’s birth, when compared with the origins of many of his brethren, was relatively unremarkable. He was born to an unremarkable middle-class couple in the depths of Berlin, and seemingly nothing distinguished him from the other bawling infants in the maternity ward. Indeed, for the first few years of his life, the child seemed entirely average at everything. Jonathan wasn’t a genius, nor was he an idiot. He was a bit more of a social child than one would expect, but he wasn’t the lord and master of his peers either.

Unbeknownst to everyone, the only real thing that set him and his family apart from the pack was the diluted Quincy blood surging in their veins, retained from an era where the Webers were loyal retainers to a major Quincy bloodline. However, they had been forced to flee, and, over time, their spiritual abilities had faded into the realms of amusing family stories, told around the fire with a bottle of wine, but not to be taken seriously.

However, even the merest drop of such a spiritual bloodline yields effects, even in the unaware. By the time he was five, Jonathan was one of the fastest and strongest kids among his peers, and his thirst for physical betterment only seemed to grow over time. While other kids fought tooth and nail to get out of sports practice, Jonathan found that he deeply enjoyed such physical activities, going so far as to beg his bemused parents for entrance to a local self-defense class for kids by the time he was eight.

Unfortunately, the boy was only ten when tragedy struck.

On the eve of his birthday, his parents surprised him with an amazing gift: they were going on a trip to Vienna! The boy, who had always been fascinated with history, was thrilled at the opportunity, and it was all his parents could do to keep him calm until his spring break. Upon their arrival to the sprawling city, they took up residence in a relative’s house for their stay, and his parents described the next day’s tour of the city, which would commence shortly after they had a short business meeting. The next morning, the family awoke, ate together, and his parents departed.

Jonathan never saw them again.

As the hours wore on, with no sign of them returning, Jonathan grew more and more panicked, until the evening news broadcast revealed that a building downtown had been annihilated in a massive explosion that brought down it, and much of the surrounding city block.

It was the same building where Jonathan’s parents had gone to.

Feeling more alone than he ever had before, the boy wept for a long time, consoled by his aunt and uncle. The seemingly orphaned boy was adopted by his relatives, and finished his schooling noticeably quieter than he had been before. He still smiled, and was still just as reckless and open as he had been before, but there was a….depth, a burden that had not been present before that day.

When he was eighteen, Jonathan signed on to the German branch of Shadowfall’s conventional military. Even in an age where the upper echelons of the organization could casually wipe islands off the face of the map if they so choose, there was still a need for rank-and-file to bolster their defenses and keep the peace. With his natural charisma and athletic ability, Jonathan quickly rose to be a star soldier and was assigned to a prominent military base on the nation’s coastline.

For the first time in years, Jonathan had felt truly fulfilled. Ever since his parent’s demise, driving purpose had eluded him, but something about serving his country….comforted him in an odd way. It allowed him to make use of his natural gifts to their fullest and was at least a good outlet for his repressed sorrow. He was in fact genuinely smiling one bright summer afternoon when all hell broke loose.

Stirred by the onset of World War 4, a contingent of Hollows had assaulted the Reishi rich Europe, beginning their hunt from the northern coast. The base, with no spiritual beings on site, didn’t even have the slightest prayer of survival. The entire construction was wiped off the face of the earth by a hail of Ceros, with every single person on the base dying almost instantly to the overwhelming power. Out of sheer luck and perhaps a stirring of his latent potential, Jonathan had had a second’s premonition of danger, and had instinctively thrown himself into an underground bunker.

Even so, the action had only prolonged the inevitable. A healthy dose of insane heat and collapsed rubble had ensured his demise. Impaled by a dozen lengths of metal, Jonathan flickered between life and death, tending towards the former.

Until the savior arrived.

When the soldier awoke next, he was surprised to find himself alive. Even more surprising was the man sitting on a chair across from him, radiating a power so intense that it made the soldier shiver. The man explained that his name was Cyrus, the grandmaster of an organization known as the Steinritter, and a member of the Quincy race, a subset of humanity with spiritual powers. Jonathan, rather understandably, had some doubts about the situation, but a minute display on the part of his visitor convinced him of the truth of this rather quickly.

The ensuing explanation pretty much reshaped his entire world.

The Quincy left then, giving the shell-shocked Jonathan a few weeks to recover, both physically and mentally, even if the latter only ended up being partial. When Cyrus returned, offering him the chance to train in the Quincy arts so that he could defend himself, Jonathan found that he could not refuse, even after the man’s dire warnings.

The ensuing months were hell in the purest sense of the word. Physical trials that lasted for weeks. Tests of his intelligence and information-retaining capability that drove him to tears. Tests of his willpower, of his pain tolerance, of his sheer, bloody-minded stubbornness and commitment to learn. But, through it all, Jonathan persevered, determined that, this time, nothing he loved would be taken from him without him being able to so much as twitch a finger.

Seeing the young man’s determination, Cyrus imbued him with a minute fragment of his divinity, so small that it was nearly sub-atomic when compared with the Divine Quincy’s glorious majesty. However, it was more than enough to kick start Jonathan’s latent gifts…..and knock him out for several hours.

It was then, however, that the true training began.

V. Natural Abilities & Skills

» Slightly Superhuman Physical Statistics: Due to the newness of Jonathan's powers, and his inexperience with using them, the Quincy is nothing really to write home about in terms of his strength, speed and endurance. He tends slightly to the superhuman in terms of strength and speed, being faster and stronger than most normal humans, but that is about it.

» Skilled Marksman: Jonathan was trained as a soldier, and it shows in his marksmanship with both of his Spirit Weapon's "modes". When in battle, Jonathan can often hit what he is aiming at, even when moving at high speeds and pressured by numerous assailants.

» Proficient Hand-to-Hand Combatant: From a young age, Jonathan was always fascinated by martial arts, even before he enlisted. This early love grew into a specialization, making him a very proficient hand-to-hand combatant, primarily specializing in German Ju-Justu and Akkido.

» Geomancy: Jonathan is deeply connected and attached to the Earth he came from, and the Earth he seeks to defend. Complex manipulation of the reishi within the ground and its bounties allows him control of the earth, as well as most metals and crystals. Substances that either already infused with reishi are resistant to his manipulations (depending on tier etc) and objects that are part of the user’s soul (I.E. a Shinigami’s Zanpaktou) are completely immune. The larger-scale or more complex the manipulation is, the more spirit energy it requires. Any constructs he creates move at a speed one rank below his skill in Reishi manipulation.

» Metalllegierung: One of the most basic techniques in Jonathan’s arsenal. The Quincy sinks his Reishi into the earth, seeking out the residual traces of metal within the ground. With enough concentration, Jonathan can retrieve these traces, allowing him easy access to manipulable metal.

» Verstärken: Another essential technique in Jonathan’s arsenal. The Quincy is able to selectively infuse his spiritual energy into any metal he touches, vastly increasing its usability in battle. This equals out to one tier below his reishi manipulation in durability. Anything effected this way will be distinguished by a soft blue coloration on the surface of the infused metal.

VI. Quincy Skills & Abilities

None

VI. Spirit Weapon

» Spirit Weapon Name: Gerechtigkeit

» Spirit Weapon Appearance: Gerechtigkeit is an anamoly among Quincy spirit weapons for many reasons. The first and most obvious of these is the fact that it is not a bow, but rather normal-seeming guns. There is no embellishment on it at all, and if seen from an uninformed perspective, there is nothing to set them apart from weapons normal humans use. The second fact is that Jonathan's Spirit Weapon has two distinct forms. The first is a powerful break-open single-shot pistol.

Spoiler:
The other form of Gerechtigkeit is a heavy, semi-automatic bullpup sniper rifle, with a heavy scope meant to allow for superior engagements at long range
Spoiler:

» Spirit Weapon Abilities: Jonathan is not a normal Quincy, and Gerechtigkeit is not a normal Spirit Weapon. Therefore, its abilities differ greatly than what one commonly expects of the weapon of a Quincy, being that both of it's forms are guns. The rounds they fire are Jonathan's form of Quincy arrows, and are created within the weapons, negating reloading as a concern. Aside from the basic "arrows" Gerechtigkeit is able to fire, Jonathan is also able to swap to more specialized ammunition when the situation calls for it, at the cost of increased energy drain.

» Feur Pfeil: These arrows are Jonathan's "incendiary rounds". Upon contact with an opponent, the arrow explodes in a fiery blaze, easily making them the most destructive arrow in Jonathan's arsenal. If an opponent is caught in the blast, there is the additional danger of the flames generated by the explosion. These flames feed directly off whatever spirit energy is externally used against them (I.E. an Arrancar's Hierro) to sustain themselves, otherwise they burn out in 2 rounds. Their potency is equal to around 25% of Jonathan's Reshi Manipulation per turn.

» Folgen Pfeil: These arrows are Jonathan's "tracer rounds". Upon contact with a target, the specialized Reishi 'sticks' to the target, the distance depending on tier (4, building. 3 block, etc). The bullet itself does no damage to the opponent, as well as the fact that any being sensitive enough could likely pick up it's spiritual signature. Finally, each tracer only lasts 5 rounds.

» Schneidend Pfeil: These arrows are Jonathan's "armor-piercing rounds", trading most of their raw destructive power in trade for exceptional anti personnel capability. These rounds penetrate 40% more than they normally would, varying 10% higher if the opponent is a tier below, and 10% lower if they are a tier above Jonathan.

» Verwandein: Gerechtigkeit has two distinct 'modes' that Jonathan can switch between at will. It's most often used form is that of a hard-hitting but slow firing pistol with a variety of ammunition types, perfect for a variety of engagements. However, when Jonathan needs something with a bit more firepower, he can transform the pistol into a long range sniper rifle, complete with a powerful scope to allow for long-range engagements. In exchange for the option to switch ammunition types, this sniper rifle is far more powerful than Gerechtigkeit's pistol form, with each arrow being around 50% more potent, as well as exploding with significant force.

IV. Equipment

» Quincy Cross: Jonathan's cross takes the form of a medallion, hanging on a chain around his neck. The cross itself is unremarkable, consisting of a pentangle wrought of a simple silvery metal.

Comments/Notes:
Everything looks good here. Requested one change in DM's that made it so that instead of ignoring a percentage of a target's defenses, the armor piercing rounds instead have a stronger piercing effect.
