This Ain't A Fight Night [Liltotto/Elyss]
Thu Jan 26, 2023 10:27 pm
Liltotto Lamperd
"..Alright guys, that's a wrap. Go home and get some rest."
A clap from the blonde would indicate the end of the mixed session, a collective handful of newer Sternritters who were interested in some guided training had spent a few hours with her. This was pretty much the norm for days in the city for her, and if anything it helped her in learning how to deal with various other's abilities. Mostly Quincies and a portion of Fullbringers, she was happy to help them out individually with any walls they may have hit with their abilities and even teach them something new.
Though it was time for the session to end, everyone leaving, until it was just her left in the room. Drinking down a bottle in one go, she'd make her own leave - there was still plenty of time for her to commit to her own training, but she'd only conduct such on her usual beach.
And there she was, under an evening sun, practicing some hand-to-hand technique, imagining a fast opponent coming at her, though after some time into this she felt a little unfulfilled, sighing and kicking sand. Dodging and striking something imaginary definitely didn't feel like the real thing, her taking a moment to ponder her options.. Was there anyone she could ask for help?

What an interesting island. It'd be a shame for it to disappear one day. Elyss found that thought somewhat grim, letting herself also remember the areas that are still under construction. This little city hasn't recovered yet, and the idea that it could end up the same again or worse lingered in her mind. This isn't really her place to think about protecting, but she was never one for partial justice. The Vandenreich deserves her attention as does anywhere else. It's a shame her current profession leaves her at a strange dividend with Quincy. She has no real idea on the history between the two organizations, but it seems she's forced to suffer some of the blame for it anyway.
Her thoughts carried her feet, leading her around randomly. It was just fortune that traced her steps in the sand. Even the beach here is nice, but that's too be expected. The setting sun only added to the beauty that the world is naturally attuned to. Elyss could watch this moment forever, something that no amount of pain or strife could take away. What did alter her enjoyment of it, however, was the sound of someone training. Elyss, being who she is, is used to the sound. It only took her seconds to find the source, a blonde woman training all on her own. Not wanting to really disturb the individual, Elyss turned her gaze back towards the ocean, letting her mind pivot from one thing to another.

She decided to practice movements anyway as she considered her options. There was Natasha, or Solomon, even Alastair.. Well maybe not that last one, he seemed pretty busy, she'd hate to be a bother over something as minor as a training session. Maybe Reida? No, she also seemed pretty busy, she'd definitely feel like she was asking too much if it was out of the blue. Definitely not Lukas, especially how their last conversation ended off. Maybe..
A familiar chill hit her spine when her senses picked up a scent: Shinigami.
Her movements suddenly halted with the appearance of the red headed woman, like a spun toy that ran out of winding, her arms dropping and looking toward her. Ugh, dare she ask? The woman matched the description of the 7th Division captain she's heard been around, Elyss Kishimoto - would be hard to miss hair that red. Well.. If they really were meant to be on good terms.. Maybe the woman wouldn't try to flay her under the guise of pushing training too hard.
She silenced those paranoid thoughts, raising a hand to wave, "Hey, you're... Captain Kishimoto, right?" Though her raised voice was relaxed, there was an edge of hesitation to it, "Feel up to a spar? Or are you beach watching today?"

"Strange way of saying hello," Elyss mused, turning her head towards the woman who had invited her to spar. Running through the multitudes of numbers, pictures, and documents in her head, Elyss concluded the identity of the woman not too far from her. She dared not speak Liltotto's name however, finding it rude to address someone who has yet to introduce themselves. As little as Elyss cared about her identity being common knowledge, she cared a lot about giving people proper respect, unless they attract her ire.
"Are you sure you want to spar?" She then asked, raising her voice a bit to be heard over the waves. "You seem a little on edge. Have the rumors reached this far already?"
There's a bit of a stigma around Elyss that follows her everywhere. For one, they call her aggressive. They also call her mean, too serious, and unreasonably unsafe to be around. Also, she's sure members of the Vandenreich have talked about the harsh way she spoke to their Grandmaster. However, if Liltotto's looking past all that, then there's little reason to not accept the blonde's proposal. Sightseeing was getting boring anyway.
"Whatever... If ya want, I don't mind," She added raising a hand to scratch at the back of her head. "Just let me know what'cha need help with."

Hospitality, hospitality... She kept reminding herself like a kick in the leg with a thorn, regardless of how much instinctive horror the scent raked her nerves with, "That not how some people greet?" a somewhat playfully sarcastic response was shot back, dropping her arm and shrugging away her visible tension, "..Dunno what you mean about rumors, but i'm not tensed at all, not toward you at least. I've been very focused on training, that's what you may be seeing."
Kind of a fib; she has been pretty hard focused on training, but that definitely wasn't what caused her tension, but her automatic response was to speak something that wouldn't immediately imply weakness, be it in herself or her colleagues. Weakness spelled exploitation spelled doom for everything they had worked for... At least that was what was drilled into her head as a kid and unfortunately seemed to resurface on impulse. Ugh, what a curse.
"I've never really fought a Shinigami before," an absolute lie, but hopefully she wasn't old or informed enough to know of that time, "And seeing how you guys are insisting on helping us with that situation.. Kind of want to see what you're capable of. Not to downplay your skill, of course, i'm sure the Gotei wouldn't appoint ill-equipped captains."
She held all manners of curses, angers, and disgusting words beneath her tongue and spoke with only a calm sense of respect toward Elyss, "I just want to be certain for myself, and it seems like i'm in luck. A great opportunity to see if my concerns are really unfounded."

"Helping?" Elyss muttered, letting her exchange with Cyrus replay itself in her head. Her eyes narrowed as her gaze returned to the ocean, watching the waves dance. For a second, she imagined this city being engulfed by the sea, a force of nature enacting unbiased judgement. Then, her thoughts left her pondering why manmade disasters exist in the first place. If she was meant to respond to an earthquake, that'd be understandable, but the sole fact that one man flipped the world upside down left her questioning what she's been doing all this time. The anger she felt, knowing that people's lives are in danger and being unable to be there for them, left her with questions about herself and the people around her.
"I'm not your average Shinigami. If you want to fight a Shinigami, you'd be better off asking anyone else," Elyss said, letting her eyes move back to Liltotto, her gaze somewhat solemn. "Right now, I'm not dressed as a Captain, but I won't disappoint someone who's expecting a good challenge."
Elyss disliked being referred to as a Captain. She found it uninteresting how expectations are thrown her way because of a silly title. People shouldn't look up to her because she wears a white coat. Elyss was Elyss before she was appointed a Captain, and she'll be Elyss when everything around her is taken away. She's become a bit harsh about this, but that's to be expected when the redhead has become a bit unhappy with herself. Either way, she has a challenger to address.
"Show me what'cha got. You can make the first move."

Despite the girl's questionable words, she somewhat understood what the woman was hinting toward in regards to not dressing like a Captain. Didn't seem like simple humility, if anything it seemed like something that upset her - huh, she'd expect a member of the Gotei to be ecstatic to have gotten to that kind of spot, or at least content, then again she was relating it to job promotions. Maybe the redhead's just at some point in her position where she isn't super happy with carrying about with it, guess she could understand that - she wouldn't want people licking her boots because she was miss Administrator-Manager-Director-Whatever-Dumbass-Name-We've-Come-Up-With-This-Time-For-Glorified-Overpaid-Whipcracking.
Well, as the two readied themselves, she decided that she was finally in too deep to not mention who she was, "Oh, by the way, name's Liltotto Lamperd. Sorry, I normally lead with that."
There wasn't even so much as a 'Go' when the sand where she stood, or well, used to be standing at, suddenly kicked up, and within the blink of an eye she was suddenly right in front of her with a readied kick, one that would slam into the lower side of her opponent's abdomen if Elyss wasn't quick with dodging, her other foot firmly planting on the ground and overall presenting with a solid form, already prepared to move in retaliation.

Elyss wouldn't have called herself ready for what came immediately after Liltotto had introduced herself. She was more focused on acknowledging the woman's name when the attack came, but like prey, Elyss was prepared to run away. Like a predator, Elyss was already ready to pounce. Maybe it's just her second nature to always understand these sorts of things, processing information before she's even entirely sure what's going on. It's like a sense or something.
However, she didn't make any move to dodge Liltotto's attack, eating it instead. Though, the redhead seemed hardly concerned with a leg in her gut, moving her hand almost immediately to grab Liltotto's ankle. Whether she got it or not mattered little, for she would simply purchase her fingers securely and toss the blonde Quincy away out towards the Ocean. Hopefully, Liltotto can fly or swim. Elyss isn't entirely up to date on what Quincy do with their abilities.

Her foot connected, but it felt like she swung her leg into a solid wall than a person. However, as soon as her eye caught movement her leg would swiftly retract, narrowly avoiding being grabbed. She hardly thought as her upper half dipped low, toward the red-head's feet, forcing her own leg to hit the ground in the same heartbeat one of her hands would focus energy and slap down into the sand, immediately deploying a sizable pierce trap, teeth-like energy constructs abruptly jutting out of the ground in the space both women occupied. It was less a move to injure Elyss and more to immediately create distance between the two of them, Liltotto kicking backwards and skidding backwards on the sand to avoid being caught up.
Eyes focused on her target, a thin glowing sword forming in her hand, it's surface appearing to begin to bubble as if it were made of water. To the untrained eye, this would look like a reishi construct, but any more discerning could put together it was in fact sourced from her reiryoku, her spiritual pressure beginning to exert it's presence.
No thoughts, no words, only the clash of two individuals as she'd run with a kicking start, initially coming at the woman with a high swing before abruptly dipping mere inches from her, blade following through with the misdirect into a swift low swing. As much as she didn't expect it to do damage, at the very least it was an attempt of catching the shinigami by surprise.

"Huh?"
Energy shot up, but Elyss didn't move, turning herself barely to avoid being pierced by whatever fixture Liltotto had conjured. Barely a second of analysis was needed to understand the teeth-like composition of this strange trap, but Elyss found herself more so annoyed than anything as she grabbed hold of one of the strange constructs. With just a grunt, she shattered everything before her, taking notice of Liltotto's attack, but there's far too many holes for the redhead to be concerned.
For starters, a feint only works after the opponent had also committed to an attack. As it stands, anyone would have been able to counter this, and Elyss showcased that by idly lifting her right leg. Not being much of a kicker, the redhead figured Liltotto would find it easier to dodge this than a punch. However, as Elyss kicked her foot out right for Liltotto's lowered head, she purposely leaned back to off-balance herself.
