Psychological Analysis
Everything revolves around money and wealth. Sumana is a person that is driven by a desire for material wealth to the point that she refuses to give something up unless she deems it to be of greater value than what she is giving up. A sly individual that is cunning and happy to oblige in underhand or unscrupulous behaviour if it means garnering more wealth for herself. She's a self-proclaimed gambler but it's an insincere statement, she does not enjoy the thrill of the risk but now if she could do something unsavoury to tip the scales in her favour? Well that is a gamble in itself.

She is often referred to as the accountant. She balances books and runs much of the business happening in Brazil. There's no better individual at making money than her due to losing something is the equivalent of ampuating a limb from her body. It's unacceptable to lose money and so everything is carefully done to ensure that she comes out on top of a situation.

While projecting an air of arrogance, there is very little in the way of actual vanity. If she was deprived of everything or something was just so valuable that she needed to have it then there is no depths to the shameful things she would subject herself to if it meant getting something in return.

At the end of the day, it's all just good business.

» Likes: Slaves, wealth, anything that has value.

» Dislikes: Losing something, thieves (which aren't her).

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Sumana is the first and foremost of Safira's Royal Flush who has held her seat of power among the former Espada's ranks since she came in service to the woman over a century ago. Sumana is also the one responsible for overseeing the success of the Five Suns Resort - being the one who first posited the idea to Safira in the first place. She is often seen as the accountant of the group, managing resources and moving assets to keep them on the front foot.

Sumana's origins can be traced back to the Age of Exploration. She was a low-born human who floated through life without any greater meaning to it, serving within one of the great Empires of the South Americas before the Spanish arrival on the continent. The defining moment of her life was the conquistadors demanding gold, something that she had not understood where the value was founded. It was during the declining period before the outright collapse of the Mesoamerican spheres and Spanish Occupation that she passed away.

Rather than be sent onwards to the Soul Society, Sumana devolved into the path of a Hollow. Influenced by the materialism of the explorers, she became obsessed with acquiring - hoarding - food so that she possessed it over her peers. Sumana would steal humans en masse rather than pick her targets. It was not enough to simply devour them, she needed to keep a stockpile of her supply of souls so that it was greater than any other. It brought meaning to her hollow existence and many of these humans became peons and slaves, only food when the hunger became too much. The loss of even one piece of her stash was so painful to her that she would rather starve herself until there truly was no other option.

Over time this evolved from purely a human collection to incorporate weaker hollows too. Servants that would aid her in her expansion and provide a tribute to her hoard, minions that were willing to do anything to save themselves from consumption. Within a hundred years she had devoured enough souls to evolve into a Menos Grande. The shift into a Gillian was a traumatic experience for one so focused on keeping everything for herself. Losing her sense of self and her ego in the chaos of it all threatened to drown her, but one by one she collected the scattered fragments of her soul as little objects through which she could reclaim that which she had lost. It was not a quick process, centuries were lost as she roamed as little more than a rabid beast, but Sumana knew she would eventually make up for lost time.

Sumana simply had too great of a desire to own everything around her to be silenced. She fought her way to the surface time and time again to display her dominance, until one day she finally stood atop the mountain of souls within her and ascended to the next stage of existence - an Adjuchas. But her triumph and independence would be short-lived, as she soon caught the eye of a powerful Shinigami. She had fought several of his kind before, when she was a Gillian, yet even with all of her newly achieved power, she was no match for him.

Death was not the punishment for her defeat, though. The Shinigami, who introduced himself as Sosuke Aizen, was building an army and wanted the strongest fighters to join him. He used the Hogyoku to shatter her mask and transform her into one of his new Arrancar, branding her a Numeros and further binding her to his service.

Sumana was initially despondent at the loss of all she had once possessed, a hoarder with nothing left to own not even herself, but she found within that pit of despair a reason to continue to climb. Hatred. She hated that Shinigami for binding her so, for torturing her to live in squalor whilst he lauded over them all in a gaudy palace. She would serve, yes, but only to get closer to him to one day have her vengeance and claim all that was his as her own.

Perhaps it was this single-minded ambition that caught the eye of one of the Espada, Aizen’s elite warriors, for she was pulled from the ranks to serve as a Fracción. Proximity to her goal did not bring with it opportunity, though. The Shinigami was far more cunning than her and likely quite well aware that many of his servants would gladly turn their blades upon him if he showed even a moment of weakness. The hatred cooled to loathing, then apathy, and there she found an understanding with the Espada that had pulled her from the masses.

Safira had no fondness for Aizen either, for his efforts to unite all of Hueco Mundo had destroyed that which she had once called home and tainted her opinion of the sands. Despite herself, Sumana grew to revere the older Arrancar. She did not feel bound to her service as a slave, like she did to Aizen and his army, and in turn she was enabled to begin hoarding anything and everything once again. Lesser Arrancar, weaker Hollows, they were her cute playthings once more.

It came as a shock when Safira was cast down from the Espada, as the underhanded Nnoitra had only managed to cheat his way to victory. But the deck is not often stacked fairly, so she wondered what would become of them now as Sumana and her fellow Fraccion were discarded once more.

She still hunted with Safira out of boredom, the remaining rogue Vasto Lorde proving little challenge for their group, but her attention grew more and more fixated on the realm of the living. Many years had passed since she last paid the humans any attention, and in that time they had found countless new ways to make themselves suffer for material wealth. It amused her how far they would degrade themselves for money or fame, so much so that she began to covet it herself.

Opportunity came hand-in-hand with freedom, as the actions of Ichigo Kurosaki brought Aizen’s machinations to an end and scattered his army to the wind. Sumana gladly cast off her shackles, leaving behind her number and heading to the world of the living to resume that which she had done centuries prior. Carving out her own little corner of the world, she collected anything and everything that she could. Living, material, or otherwise, she gorged herself on every delight that she could acquire and hoarded even more for the simple pleasure of owning it and knowing it was hers.

That was not to say that she had severed all ties with Safira, though. When the opportunity came knocking at her door and she needed the extra muscle, Sumana came on her hands and knees to see what agreement could be reached. She fought at the Gorgon’s behest many times, as she had done when she was her Fraccion and cemented her position as a dependable asset.

It was then that Sumana came to Safira with the idea of the Five Suns Resort, shortly after the annihilation of Brazil. The establishment of a permanent base of operations in the World of the Living that also satisfied her need to amass wealth of all kinds whilst allowing them to spread their influence across the globe like the sprawling heads of a great hydra. The price she was asked was a simple one, the loss of her own public identity so that she could pose as Safira whenever it was deemed appropriate. To some that might have been akin to ending their own existence, but to Sumana it was a simple exchange. It had never mattered who she was, only what she had.

NATURAL ABILITIES

» Jokers Wild: The "public face of Safira Aldrovandi" since Safira underwent her metamorphosis. Sumana's position of maintaining much of the business arrangements in the human world made her ideal for the Arrancar to use her for smoke and mirrors. This was a mutual arrangement where Sumana's adoption of her boss's identity allowed her to lay claim to all of her business ventures and monetary assets in the human world, even if she was aware of the fact that she was a direct subordinate of the woman so doesn't really outside of the legal sense, what this provides for Safira by undergoing the body modifications is to keep up the farce of being a humble entrepreneur in the world of the living.

Her spiritual power and appearance have been altered to perfectly mimic the other woman however there are a plethora of discrepancies such as the fact that Sumana is shorter than the other woman, and her spiritual class is not changed besides the fact it feels the same, and she doesn't act any different. To an unwitting opponent, it would seem as if "Safira" was simply pulling her punches or not operating at her full capacity.

» Sleight of Hand: With her preference for using cards and casino chips as weapons, Sumana is highly capable of launching them with a keen aim. The capacity to turn a playing card into a throwing knife and chips into bullets makes her able to stay at a distance while picking her targets off, but she is also equally nimble in close quarters. With a flick of the wrist, she can swap the cards in her hand for new ones up her sleeves or launch a hidden dagger at a target with frightening accuracy.

» Cut 'em Deep: Contrary to her preference for ranged combat, Sumana is also highly competent when it comes to using her deck of cards in close combat. Clasping them in her hands and slashing at a target with precision to damage weak points and grow her advantage, she is more than adept at targetting weak points no matter the range to deliver crippling blows that might swing the tides of battle in the gamemaster's favour.

» Golden Rule: Knowledge is power, with knowledge she can find new avenues to exploit and create wealth. Sumana is perhaps the greatest capitalist that could exist, for her wisdom and cunning know no bounds when she is in the process of acquiring a new revenue flow. Accounting, mathematics, engineering, medicine, and the arts. She is a veritable genius when matters can be applied to the process of making money - whether appraising, reducing the loss, or calculating overheads.

» Poker Face: In any situation Sumana has a clear mind. It is nigh-impossible to break through her poker face by her ability to remain focused in any situation. She possesses an ability to channel utter clarity that will reject anything that could get in the way of her monetary conquest. Her poker face is important to her for her identity as a "gambler", she must always know when to go all in and when she can fold - or when she can exploit and cheat the other person.

ARRANCAR ABILITIES

» Impresión: Among her power is an alteration of the hollow ability to consume souls but Sumana has no interest in eating anymore, as an arrancar it is a redundant process but also if she devours a soul then she cannot possess it. Impresión is a technique that allows her to absorb the soul of a victim into a blank card. This card becomes a stylised printing of the trapped victim which she can keep among her treasures though the process is just as fatal as a similar technique (Gonzui) and carries many of the same issues which make it unfeasible to apply an instant-death effect on a target with any notable spiritual power who is not already near death.

» Fichas: Sumana is capable of generating "chips". They appear like any other casino chip one might find except that she is highly proficient at using these coins offensively such as launching them as bullets or setting them up to alter the trajectory of her cero. Another attribute that she can control is the size and weight of them proportionate to how much of her spiritual energy she invests in them. It would not be out of the question for her to be able to create two giant chips and sandwich a large building between them in the midst of a fight.

» Dado (Die): A cero variation where she builds up energy in a closed hand before launching a small cube that can release from one to six beams after throwing it. The power is spread over the amount that she fires though, so a single beam would be the most powerful single target, but multiple beams can all shoot off in different directions.

» Dado Cargado (Loaded Die): A variation of Dado except she uses her blood to make it scale to a Gran Rey Cero in terms of power. As an additional caveat, this variation allows the power to be spread disproportionately over the amount of beams that she fires which means that one or two of them could carry the majority of the power and the others only cause light burns. However, there is a subtle difference in the beams themselves based on the power they hold, so a particularly astute opponent could determine which pose a real threat but would have to do so in the blink of an eye.

» Ruleta (Roulette): By combining the chips generated from her Fischas and skill at Dado, Sumana is capable of using her chips as a medium to create projectiles that can function like saw-blades by lining them with the energy of a cero. They can range from a single large and powerful one or a volley of smaller and less powerful ones, but they are all difficult to block due to the amount of cutting power they have and can cause wide-area devastation.

» Tragaperras (Slots): A hierro technique which requires her to actively utilise rather than her passive hierro. By using Tragaperras Sumana is able to cause the reiryoku in her skin to vibrate and appear to almost spin in place. This additional movement greatly empowers its effectiveness by weakening oncoming attacks before they make contact and deflecting projectiles away with ease. While using Tragaperras she has reduced situational awareness as it requires precise focus on her body to maintain.

» Veintiuna (Blackjack): This is Sumana's approach to Sonido, a tool that she favours and has put a great deal of effort into expanding into something entirely her own. The individual techniques vary but Sumana maintains a consistent structure to her Veintiuna. Golpe are offensive sonido techniques, Retirarse are defensive techniques, and Dividir rely on afterimages. Each alone has its uses, but it is the multitude of combinations that she has developed that give her impressive versatility.

» Doble: A Doble is the usage of the same element twice in rapid succession, so a Doble Golpe would have twice the offensive power of a regular Golpe by allowing Sumana to double down on the strike count, whereas a Doble Divider would create additional afterimages to mask her movements in a sea of deception. The Doble commits Sumana to that line of action, though, and there is no chance to fake out or change course if she chooses to utilise it. Furthermore, a Doble cannot be followed up with any further Veintiuna moves for the next two rounds.

» Estar: An Estar is, somewhat quizzically, a movement technique that doesn't focus on travelling. Taking a stand where she is, Sumana adopts a defensive stance that allows her to focus on using minuscule bursts of Retirarse to aid her in evading attacks. This state can only be maintained for a round, and her evasion is not complete, and it requires her total concentration to the point that she cannot take any other actions.

Zanpakutō iNFORMATION

» Zanpakutō Name: Avidez (物欲餓花 (アビデス) lit. Object Craving Hungry Flower; Avarice)

» Sealed Zanpakutō Appearance:

[Spirit Class 6] Sumana Weapon_b_1040616600

» Sealed Zanpakutō Power: Sumana's Zanpakuto power is called "Póker" which allows for the generation of cards that she can turn into weapons or expend to augment her abilities or produce additional effects based on the combination she is holding. She can utilise them to augment her close combat or launch them as projectiles to attack targets. Despite being in the shape of cards they are comparable to being small blades in durability and cutting power and she can create up to 52 cards per thread. They are divided into suits: Bastos, Oros, Copas, and Espadas.

» Pareja (Pair): While holding two to four cards of the same value, Sumana can burn the cards to empower her next attack between 200% to 400%. This has the caveat that she cannot use the suit of the cards in her other techniques burned for as many rounds as her set. So if she burned four of a kind she would be unable to utilise any suit abilities beyond using them as ranged or melee weapons for four rounds. If she burned two of a kind then she would be unable to use those suits in the techniques below for two rounds.

» Escalera (Straight): When holding a straight in her hand, meaning five cards of any suit that are consecutive in value, Sumana can burn the cards to quickly activate her Sonido and Descorrer to reposition herself within the nearby vicinity in an instant. This allows for a quick relocation in the heat of battle but is a resource to be used sparingly, as the cooldown between uses increases by one round every time it is used and this count only resets after a prolonged period of rest.

» Color (Flush): While holding a flush of a suit she is able to control the rest of that suit remotely. If she held a flush of Bastos then Sumana could control all of the Bastos cards as remote flying blades telekinetically. This ability can be maintained until a different technique is used that involves the affected suit, at which point the connection will drop and all telekinetic control will cease.

Resurrección iNFORMATION

» Resurrección Release Phrase: We're Going All-In, Avidez.

» Resurrección Release Action: Taking Avidez in both hands, Sumana tosses it over her head as the weapon shatters into thousands of pieces that rain down around her and begin the transformation process.

» Resurrección Appearance: Upon releasing Avidez, Sumana's disguise is forcibly removed from her like a snake shedding its skin. The falling pieces of Avidez tear through the deception that she has woven to reveal the true form of the Arrancar hidden beneath. The removal of Jokers Wild is a necessary sacrifice though, as her body grows in size from her usually average self to that of a towering woman well over seven feet tall. Her skin becomes crystalline, her eyes a pair of brilliant gemstones, whilst her hair becomes this sparkling mass of pink gems. Finally, to complete the look, an ostentatious gilded crown manifests atop her head.

Spoiler:

» Resurrección Abilities: Sumana's hollow powers further enhance her sealed and natural abilities, representing her greed and materialism to the point that she has become a living embodiment of wealth and splendour. Due to her further development ever since taking over management of the Resort, her Póker has become more advanced and cultivated unique qualities through the medium of cards after growing to become a fearsome Arrancar. She can still use any of her previous Póker techniques, and all of them will benefit from the power boost, she also gains access to several more.

» Casa llena (Full House): When holding a full house in her hand, three of one kind and two of another, Sumana can burn them to cause all five cards to launch at a target before scaling around them as a trap. If they are trapped on the ground it is good for locking down a target by pinning them in a box against the floor but Sumana will usually utilize the five cards to leave only one way for them to escape as a means to maneuver them optimally to her plans and machinations. Once used, the cards will remain there until they are destroyed and have an impressive resilience as they are designed to imprison the target for as long as possible.

» Escalera Real (Royal Flush): The strongest hand in any situation, the five highest value cards of the same suit, the Royal Flush is the most powerful of Sumana’s Póker techniques and also the rarest. She can usually only muster the energy to use each Royal Flush once per thread and with a three-round cooldown regardless of which suit she chooses. When a second Royal Flush is activated then the effects of the previous one end.

» Bastos (Clubs): The suit of Bastos can be associated with fire, and this power activates those destructive capabilities to turn every card into a threat. At any point of her choosing, from as soon as the Royal Flush is revealed, Sumana can detonate any number of those cards to cause catastrophic damage to anything in close proximity. Detonating the bomb consumes the card, though, so she is limited to 14 of them and must be aware it will limit her other techniques by denying her those cards as they cannot be remade.

» Oros (Golds): A Royal Flush of Golds is Sumana’s personal favourite, as her love for wealth of all kinds has certainly given her an inclination to the suit of Oros. The cards of the chosen suit return to her, swarming around her and encasing her in a golden shell that she can wear as a suit of armour. Her physical strength and durability are boosted, allowing her to take to the front lines and deal with any threats to her hoard with her own two hands.

» Copas (Cups): The suit of Copas allows Sumana to turn the five cards in her hand into even deadlier weapons by coating them with a particularly virulent toxin. This toxin is one that lingers and continually inhibits a target around the point of impact, degrading skin and withering bone such that it will make limbs functionally useless after four posts of untreated exposure. Once a card has released its payload, it loses its potency and returns to being a regular card again.

» Espada (Swords): Direct and to the point, the suit of Espada eschews subtlety in favour of the direct application of threat. After a short delay, but within the same round as an Espada Royal Flush is revealed, all of the cards belonging to the suit transform into full-sized swords and attempt to skewer the nearest opponent as they burst out from the original playing cards. The entire suit is lost in the process, for the purpose of further techniques, but the swords remain and can be wielded as weapons in addition to her Zanpakutō. These blades can also be controlled in a manner similar to Color, telekinetically, though only two telekinetic blades can be managed at any one time using this technique due to the additional strain it carries.

RESOURCES INFORMATION

» South America: Though most of Royal Flush's directly owned real estate is based in Brazil, which should be considered their stronghold, Sumana has seen to a methodical expansion across much of the South American region through shrewd investments and back door dealings. Whilst it is mostly done in Safira's name, Sumana is most often seen wearing her face and as such she has considerable influence across the continent and even overseas to a limited extent.

» Five Suns Resort: A luxurious tourist hotspot for the living and spirits both, set in an idyllic location in the heart of what was once mainland Brazil. It was Sumana who first posited the idea of creating the resort, shortly after the location first became available, and she could best be summarised as the mastermind and general manager of everything that goes on there. It is also a nexus for countless underworld dealings given the lawless nature of the country it is located in, and Sumana is aware - if not directly overseeing - most of them to ensure that a healthy cut of the action is retained by the Resort.

» Seven Flowers Casino: One of, if not the most, extravagant dens of degeneracy on the planet. The centerpiece of the Five Suns Resort, in Sumana's eyes its crown jewel, is a sprawling labyrinth home to gambling of any and every kind. Concerned neither for legality nor ethics, the establishment is run by Sumana and her staff with only one singular goal - to take as much money from their clientele as possible.

» Trestrellas: The Chief Financial Officer of the conglomerate and President of CA Investments, Sumana - and by extension, Safira - have no small amount of vested interest in the organisation's continued success.
