Sugiura Template

Basics

Name: Wyatt Rivershire
True Age: 564
Gender: Male
Personality:
Macabre: To say Wyatt Rivershire had an interest in death is like saying one had an interest in breathing. It is as much a part of him as it is of the great cycle of rebirth. When meeting a spirit his first instinct isn’t to flee or fight but to discover how it become one instead. To dig deep and discover how death has effected all of life. Thus people are often put off by his openness to discuss the great beyond and is borderline psychopathic interest in corpses and crime scenes.
Intellectual: To Wyatt, people are simply intellectual pursuits of the mind. He views others not as people, but a mystery to be discovered. He will speak to them with the same interest he would a dog, less if the dog was dead. To keep his attention others would have to keep him thinking, say they have cancer or pretend they are moments away from dying and he would devote the last minutes of their lives talking up a storm.
Doomsayer: To Wyatt humanity, and all other races on this planet, are simply symptoms of its inevitable death. The world is sick with sentience and doomed to becoming a barren waste of carrion corpses, much to Wyatt’s delight. If an ally were to fall in battle he would be just as unfazed were it an enemy instead.
Sugiura Class: Normal Sugiura

General Appearance

Appearance: Wyatt Rivershire [APPROVED, 3-1-, Normal] Rivershire_by_elephantwendigo-d5sg1nv
Animalistic Traits: Wyatt received the gift of a bird’s eye view, quite literally. Gaining a jaundice yellow color, the added protection of multiple membranes, and a collection of high density rod cells; Wyatt’s eyes are nigh discernible from those of an actual bird. They function well during times of poor lighting and can even pick up multiple color spectrums, however a trait he was stuck with in addition to these eyes is the occasional twitching of the head and darting of the eyes much like a bird searching for signs of movement.
Appearance Age: Late twenties.
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 159 lbs

Natural Abilities

Techinques:
The Wind Beneath My Wings: Despite the deceptive title, Wyatt has not wings nor wind manipulation. In fact this technique is in reference to his natural speed and fluidity. Nevermore allows Wyatt to move as gracefully and swiftly as a bird dancing from one current to the next. Thus Wyatt is blessed with an innate speed that allows him to quickly dodge and strike in singular movements.
An Upward Current, A Graceful Descent: Whilst flight may be unattainable naturally for Wyatt, Nevermore has allowed him the ability to leap higher than most individuals without the use of spells or wings, purely on the strength of his jump. Inversely, by warping the air currents around Wyatt using their combined energy; Nevermore allows Wyatt to glide down from heights that normal people would just drop off of. Unlike Upward Current that relies on the strength of Wyatt’s jump, Graceful Descent expends a small fraction of Wyatt’s energies and lasts for only as long as it would take to descend 1000 feet.
Quoth The Raven, Nevermore: This is nothing more than the cawing of a raven. Except for it escaping from the mouth of Wyatt at a near deafening screech. It explodes from his mouth with enough force to blow someone’s hair back. Other than being a surprise disorienting technique and potential to cause partial deafness (depending on how close you were), it has no combat usage.
Carrion Feast: While having nothing to do with actual combat, Carrion Feast was sort of an accidental benefit from being bound to a raven. Wyatt can consume uncooked meat, he can even go so far as to eat the remains of fresh corpses. Though he has never likened the taste, nor would he ever turn to cannibalistic endeavors, the option still presents itself if food is scarce.

Magic: While not being an aficionado of magical abilities, Nevermore taught Wyatt the basic magic’s required to appropriately use his Sacred Weapon and maximize his techniques. Finally, though his powers my affect the wind and air around him, Wyatt has no real manipulation of wind. In a sense he may be able to issue it simple commands, actual control is not in his repertoire.
Light As A Feather: A simple spell, a simple recitation of the name. Wind wraps around Wyatt’s body and clings close while nearly lifting him off the ground. This provides two effects. One, Wyatt is nearly weightless and as such can move twice as fluid. Two, this almost entirely removes wind resistance allowing him to slash and strike without slowing. As a sustained effect it constantly draws on his power reserves. The longer it’s “on” the shorter the time he can use it. At full power with no other energy drawn it lasts a max of 15 posts.
Birds Of A Feather, Flock Together: Used as an advanced dodging spell or getaway device, Wyatt’s body splits into a total of 5 raven’s and flies off. Instantly drains half of remaining energy and since his conciseness is split in 5 if but one of those birds is killed, the body instantly reforms and Wyatt returns dazed as his mind repairs itself.

Sacred Weapon:
The Quill and Inkwell: A duo of objects that are self-titled. The Quill is a raven’s feather and the Inkwell has been enchanted with various magic’s. The weapon is formed when the two objects are used in tandem. One can consider The Quill has the hilt/handle of a various weapon. The Inkwell creates the various weapon. Once dipped into the Inkwell, The Quill pulls out a stream of ink permanently attached to the end (unless released by Wyatt), and forms a weapon as thought of by Wyatt himself. One of the enchantments of the Inkwell is that all the ink that pours forth from this well, shall be returned to this well. Therefore no matter what happens to the conjured weapon, the ink used to make it will eventually end up back in the Inkwell. This occurs from a process of evaporation. If the ink is separated from the quill or well for to long the enchantment auto-activates causing the ink to evaporate, and like moisture in the air it returns to the well. However one must be aware of the fact that the Inkwell is not inexhaustible. It has only enough ink to form the largest weapon available, a two handed greatsword (approximately 5 feet). However Wyatt almost exclusively wields it as a whip or a rapier, his two greatest weapon strengths. Finally the ink only takes on the shape of the weapon, gaining the same sharpness and weight of the object, however other than that it is nothing more than simple weapon.

Other Weapons: None

Guardian Beast

Origin: Carrion. To feast on the dead.

Guardian Beast: Nevermore. A Raven of both malice and deceit. He despises all who live and few them as nothing more than a timer waiting to finish on a future meal. Nevermore was birthed into this world out two basic aspects, that of hunger, and that of death. He speaks almost exclusively to Wyatt and grows silent when other people are around. He takes two distinct forms. One of them, the one you are most likely to witness, is a simple raven that rests upon Wyatt’s shoulder, it’s beady red eyes glaring into the very souls of all who walk by. The second is how he chooses to present himself to Wyatt in privacy. This form is nearly human, or at least Wyatt assumes, for Nevermore is shown only as a raven headed humanoid covered in a cloak of black feathers. It is this form that you should fear.
Guardian Beast's World:
The Untold Story: This world of Nevermore’s is quite the surprise when people first hear it described. It is not a graveyard of corpses, a buffet of festering meat, but a world littered with pages upon pages of parchment. It covers the ground, coats the objects left in this world, and occasionally floats down from the sky. Yet in one spot neither here nor there is a desk. And at this desk sits the second form of Nevermore, the humanoid raven, a single pale arm stretched out from beneath the cloak of feathers. He sits there, and the only sound you hear is the scratching of quill on parchment as Nevermore continues to write and write and write. It is here we witness a birds own personal hell, it is here you see but a glimpse of insight into Nevermore’s mind.

Joushou

Joushou Appearance: No longer does The Quill and Inkwell bare the shape of objects to be held, instead they fuse with the being who wields them, they become Wyatt’s arms. Well, in a sense. The literal description of what happens to Wyatt is that of integration. The ink now pours out of the well and wraps around both hands and arms forming a spiraling band tattoo from palm to right below the shoulder. The Quill then first splits into two and sinks into his palms forming yet another tattoo centered in the palms of both hands. Unfortunately the manifestation of a tattoo of ink allows enemies to view just how much ink Wyatt has left to use. A smart opponent could tell when Wyatt would be unable to reach him with the whips, or not be able to fire a projectile.
Joushou:
Raven’s Will: With The Quill and Inkwell now imbedded in both arms, Wyatt can call forth either one or both feathers located in each palm. The amount of ink has doubled and with two feathers it allows for the conjuring of two-handed weaponry.
Typewritter: With the increase in base ink amount, Wyatt can now afford to fire from his palms. These projectiles take the form of various bladed throwing weapons (daggers, shuriken, kunai, etc.) and once reaching the intended target, or missing, the ink evaporates and returns to Wyatt.

Past & Roleplay Sample

Character Background:
Wyatt’s parentage remains a mystery to him, for as early he can remember, he had always been alone. He knew someone had to have raised him until the time he turned 10. Taught him his letters, how to speak his native tongue, and other basic necessities a young Victorian ten year old would know. But from then on it was dark times, even darker memories.

The bad part of his life picked up right where his memory began. Age 10, he was cold, alone, and hungry. It was harsh winter in England, even harsher for a boy with no home, and more importantly no food. He had but two objects, two objects he would carry for his entire life, a quill, and an inkwell. He used what little paper he could acquire to log the things he saw on a daily basis. A birds nest here, a pile of garbage there, another homeless individual over yonder. It was through these recordings that he first started noting patterns. He knew which stores threw out scavenge worthy food. He knew which places were the warmest to sleep, which housewives took pity, which ones took anger. He survived 10 years of this.

His 20th year took the cake for worst. Once more Wyatt found himself facing a harsh winter, but this time like last year and the year before he came prepared. He had dodged the officials who tried to take him, begged off the women who cared, avoided the men with wicked intentions. He was a pro at living in the streets. Well, he was. Of course what Wyatt never foresaw coming was the betrayal of another homeless. Another young boy, whose name he had long since forgotten, had observed Wyatt and his methodical note taking. He plotted an ambush for Wyatt. Waited until he had fallen asleep, and then struck. He couldn’t just take the notes, Wyatt might recognize the boy if he awoke, so the boy stabbed him. Stabbed Wyatt enough times that Wyatt was not one to rise. As he lay there dying he noticed a single Raven staring at him. Watching him. The last thing he ever saw was that bird.

Flash-forward to a few years post death. He has lived as a spirit for some time now. He spent many of his early death contemplating what it meant to be a spirit. And even in this form the objects of his ink and quill seemed to project themselves to his spirit form. He stored and wrote and study all the information that came to him. But one note always stoke out to him, the one about the Raven. Every day he catalogued it as watching him, finally gaining the courage he approached the bird one day, and surprise, surprise it spoke. It told him of a life that could be his, one of fierce battles, everlasting companionship, and the ability to discover the answer to all the questions he sought.

Many years later as Wyatt began to come into his new role as a Sugiura, he once again took to observing the mortal realm. He took a fascination at watching how people died, observing the Shinigami who watched over them. Witnessing the other paranormal activity that now defined his day to day life. His mind was overwhelming with questions, questions he made sure to always ask his new partner Nevermore about in exhaustion. Of course the answers never came easy. Nevermore always required Wyatt to train his body and his weaponry skills before even thinking about asking a question. And if the answer was a multifaceted one, you can bet Nevermore made him work twice as hard. It is here that Wyatt’s story enters the main stage as he finally begins to encounter those like him.

Roleplay Sample:
There it was again. A noise, it was loud, harsh… irritating. He couldn’t pinpoint where it was coming from, but Wyatt had more important things than pick out a noise in a crowd. Oh… a crowd. I guess there was a big group forming. He hadn’t noticed, people come and go all the time, why should this be any different. He looked back down. Ahhh, there it was, exactly what he came here to see. A body. It was fresh, the skin still holding some color, the blood giving off small wisps of steam as it cooled. He took note of how the arm was separated, forcefully torn it seemed, from the body. A grotesque visage now took the place of the, why it seemed to be a boy’s, face. He didn’t die pretty, it was painful, and it was slow.

Standing up he gave a quick stretch before casing the area. Seemed like something big had blown through here. Hollow perhaps? But they usually consume, not ones to dine and dash. He glanced up briefly and took note of the ever studious red eye of Nevermore. “I’ll never be good enough for, yeah?” He said, half rhetorically to the bird. He had long since given up on impressing the judgmental creature. It was one thing to live your life under the obedience of such a pessimistic guardian, it was more fun to live your life by your own rules. Turning around something finally dawned on him.

He knew what the sound was. It was a scream. It was a cacophony of screams. Seems this group was less interested in the freshly made corpse as they were in the creature continuing its rampage. “Oh, that’s what you were trying to say. Guess I still have work to do.” Wyatt said. Once again he had been driven off focus by a body and completely missed the beast making even more. Pulling from his pockets he held but a quill and an inkwell. It seemed his full attention was now required.

Alright. I'm ready to give this a grading, tier wise he'll be 3-2.

However, I do have one question before I fill out the checklist... how does the ink come back to him after he uses it? How does the enchantment that allows the ink to be returned to it work? There is one other thing, you need to specify that while he can make feasibly any weapon he can think of, it would not have supernatural powers beyond the base form of the weapon.

That is all.
