Grey, grey, grey, grey; everything was so fucking grey. If a painter were to paint a portrait of Karakura Central in this moment, he'd may as well just throw an entire gallon of grey paint on it and call it a day. From the clouds, to the buildings and to the thoughts and minds of those in the city; everything just felt so damn grey. It was an awful feeling and one The Yuudeshi would hope to shrug off soon enough.

For the reason he was back in town to begin with was to rendezvous with the likes of his own kin. It had been far too long since he had spoken to or see most of his clan. It almost felt like a world away from himself with how far he had detached and distanced himself from others over the duration of these past few trying months. He had lost himself in the fine tunings of his body, the constant struggles for control throughout the globe and the daunting work it takes to manage an organization and constantly protect Karakura Central.

He wasn't fucking superman; no matter what others would dare to say in protest. Even with all of these enhancements and inhuman powers, there was still only so much a single man could take before the stress piles on and turns a person into a bitter soul. So, to find himself again, The Beast of Karakura saw fit to return to his roots and see if there was anything he could find to help alleviate -- this -- tension. Maybe spending time with his family could help in that venture.

Therefore, The Yuudeshi sent out a mental request throughout The Yuudeshi Network to bring him one person: "Seishi ''Last'' Yuudeshi". The child of science and experimentation, perhaps it would be best to invest time within this creation; nay, his own niece. After seeing one too many fathers and uncles killed in the line of duty, it would make sense that he'd want to spend time with her anyway.

Thus, he would await towards the gates of the city and lean against one of it's walls; while his crimson eyes would be staring into the endless spiral of The Yuudeshi Center. As the wind blew and flustered his pale white hair against the breeze, there was a form of blank thought that entered into his mind and he pondered if he should even be here in this moment. That is to say: there were so many things pulling this man in so many direction he wasn't even sure if he had a moment to spare in idle chit-chat. Yet, for his mental health, it was for the best.

Hence, he'd lean in further on his cane and gaze downward at his ashen jeans and shoes for a moment to get his head cleared. It felt as if a damn cyclone of melancholy thought slammed into his being, so he'd seek to use his deep insight into the brain to try and process those feelings away. They weren't any good to him, so he'd focus in on the sensation of touch and dust off his striped shirt of rock and alabaster hues off with his hands and just focus on being patient.

"Hurry it up, brat...."

With muttering under his breath, The Beast would grow impatient as he was used to things moving at break neck speeds in every facet of his life. Thus, he'd start tapping his foot to ease the irritation and simply await for her to show up already.

Her fingers tightened around the edge of her dress.

How long had it been? She had shut off the network, and disapeared for a while. For herself. To find who she was, not what she was. She had to understand herself, because since the moment she opened her eyes, it was a world of being connected to others, being the backdoor to an entire network, and well, just moving forward. She had never time to come to terms with that she was created, that the man she viewed as a father figure was pretty much her uncle by the blood used in her, and well that she had her own person. These were things she never had the time to observe, never had the time to check over, simply because she was always moving.

So for a time, she just shut off her connection to the network, and left. She had to learn herself, and she had to learn what she could do. Pushing herself, discovering what were her limits, and most of all, to find where she started, and the network ended. It hadn't been easy - she checked in regularly by sending messages by other means then the network, and then travelled to areas where she knew the network wasn't as strong. Places of war, famine and well chaos. And there, she fit into place - she may look like a child, but very few places held onto the belief that everything was as it seemed - and found herself in a small village. She helped by fixing things, by keeping the other kids busy, and well helping the infirmary when she could.

So she grew, into herself, into her own.

So it made sense, that fate was on her side. A few months back, and she really didn't know what to do here. Everything worked without her, so she was tempted to just eclipse agian. But that's when it came - the summons for her. The childish figure knew this was important. After all, it came from Shadin, someone she cared immensely for. Part of her felt sad that she distanced herself from him, and from everyone to the point she didn't know where her place was anymore. Part of her wanted to return, and fade away back to that village. That place had accepted her with open arms, and didn't even begrudge her growing. Back here, back in the network, she could feel herself being watched, being judged. Perhaps she had grown too independant.

Her steps were steady, as she finally saw where she was to be headed. After all, he was already there, and she knew from the things she had watched over the last few months how he hated being slowed down. When he was on the go, he just went, uncaring of any obstacle. In a way, she knew she was similar, but she also knew that she sought this man's approval and companionship beyond her rough estimation of a father figure. Yet, she knew she hadn't done anything of worth. At least not in her own mind. So maybe just spending idle time chit-chatting would be the best. She had learned the taste of independance, the taste of distancing herself. In a way, she knew they were very much the same, although by different circumstances.

So her fingers let go of her dress, and she flashed a wide smile at the silver haired male. ''Hihi!'' she said, waving at the male. Her steps stopped her in front of him, as she just kept on smiling. Even if she felt such dark and mired thoughts, keeping them hidden from the network, she always felt happy being around him. It was just something she knew was from herself, glad to be even around him. She wasn't quite sure how forward to be, so she just bounced back and forth on her heels. She wasn't even sure how to start everything else either, but for this moment, she figured it would start with them figuring out what to do first.

The tension seemed to alleviate and dissolve once the presence of Seishi Yuudeshi had been detected by the extrasensory prowess of Shadin's senses. His shoulders would ease, scowl lessen and the irritability within seemed to come to a cut off point. As, more than anything else, it was sufficient to see that his call was answered. Judging from many of the active records kept within The Yuudeshi Network, most of his family and friend alike were engaged within active missions, marked as AWOL or their statuses were stamped simply "unknown". It was disheartening to say the least.

For now, however, he could set his sights upon the chipper demeanor of "Last's" smile. Though, despite feeling less stiff and rigid, the expression of irritation still clouded the face of Shadin in the form of a slight frown. It wasn't intentional, as he wasn't upset at her for being a little late. No. As of recent, that had just been his default emotion: stressed.

Stress which raged within at himself for failing to provide for the world and live up to their expectations. Stress that ate away and burned at him for the impeding inevitability of all out war. Stress that churned him out and spat him for dead for the unavoidable future of dread ahead in the decay of the universe. Stress -- for a life far too long.

It could go on, but not even that description was enough to inscribe and detail the weigh baring on this man's shoulders. No pretty words, flowery speeches or in-depth thought could portray and accurately represent the many responsibility, duties and obligations he was chained and bound by. So it led to reason, a dark reason, that perhaps his existence had gone on one too long. Perhaps beings such as himself and many others were not meant to prolong and extend their lives to the extent he has. It was -- inhuman.

So, while his mind fizzled out in black noise, the lively voice of Seishi brought him back into reality before the rapid thought of his ever evolving mind became submerged in a sea of infinite, negative thought. Thus, to grip and feel something solid out of the abstract abyss of his own hollowed mind, The Yuudeshi moved his right hand and patted her ever so gingerly. Through this action, Shadin intended to show her that he was at least not angry and bothered by her; despite what his facial language otherwise expressed.

Thus, his blood filled eyes would gaze upon her before speaking these words out:

"Oi, someone actually managed to respond. What a fucking feat you managed, Seishi."

The words were foul, but the intent was earnest enough. He was happy to see her at least. As, for him, it was akin to finding a relic of familiarity in an ocean of foreign and unknown terrority. That's how Shadin saw the world at this point: alien and separate from himself and everything he had ever known.

None the less, he wasn't one to idle for to long. The chit-chat would be kept brief and he'd prod straight for the kill:

"I can go through all the records in The Yuudeshi Network, but tell me: from all the rancid missions you've encountered, are you ready to come back home?"

Leaning down on his cane, the stare would become more intent. It was an important question and one Shadin wanted an answer to. Thus, he'd further elaborate and make it clear what his intentions was:

"And I don't mean home as in a cold place like this. I mean home as in actually forming our fucking family again."

His stance, his face was tense. She could see it and she knew he knew that she did. So when his hand came to her head, patting her softly like he used to, the girl could only smile widely. Yes, even though they had spent time apart, she easily found something within her again that had never left. At a time, she thought she had a crush on him, poor girl. But Seishi had come to identify what she felt - the stirrings of her heart that thumped so loudly in her chest. It was love, but not the kind she had expected either. It was a pure love, a love that didn't have a sort of definable relationship to it. She loved him dearly, and whatever aspect she could channel that love for him, whatever he needed, she would. She would never fix him, because fixing people is not possible.

But she could be there for him.

She rolled her eyes at him, the smile on her face turning very fond. She knew she had changed in some ways, definitely. You try being responsible for several kids, and being the only logical and smart one in the whole group, and see if you stay as childish and immature as you used to be, would be her reaction if anybody commented on it. ''Yes, isn't it impressive.'' she said, grinning at him. That was another thing - where she would have puffed and huffed at the perceived criticism, now she just played along. Although she knew, in some way, how he felt. When she had cut herself off, she had gone to a place she had never been before. Sure they were all humans, but that separation had done both good and bad. She'd had a chance to grow and change, without people holding her to what they thought was herself. But yet, she had been so alone, missing the things that brought her comfort and safety. And even though she knew she couldn't be as she used to be - her spot in life had been replaced in some form, nobody's place was secure - she could make herself a new path.

But before she could sink into her own thoughts - much like he would, funnily enough - Shadin called her attention to why he called her here.

''Hey, they weren't that bad!'' she said, protesting at the word rancid. Really? It was mostly out of playfulness, the girl unable to shake the wide grin that installed on her face from the moment she saw him. But, she saw him shift, saw the cane he used to walk. She saw how he was absolutely serious, and in a moment, the grin slipped away. Her own eyes sparked, and her face closed as she thought about it. Was she ready to come back? Was she ready to commit time to this again? Immediately, she wanted to say yes. But she had to stop that initial response, because that was still who she was. Thinking more of making others happy then actually acknowledging if she was ready or not. So as the silence grew, the girl started to mix into her thoughts, making a list.

Although, she hadn't realized how surprising it might be that her cheerfulness had actually turned into seriousness. Even when everything was falling apart, she always had a smile in the past.

''Honestly? I want to.'' she said finally, her voice clear. ''Yet I can't tell how much of it is nostalgic. I'm afraid, that if we try, we'll just fall apart again.'' she said softly. She knew she could tell how what she felt. He'd understand. And perhaps, she was one of the only people that could truly understand him, even if she didn't understand everything. They were both very similar, if not extremely so. Sure, she hadn't lived as long as he, and sure, there were major differences between them. But in the end, one of the closest people to her in the world was this man. And that she couldn't deny, not that she would. So gently, her fingers reached, and tried to take one of his hands into her own. If one was free, if not she'd just settle it on top of his.

''But I can't let that stop me, right?'' she told him, a bright smile coming to her face once more.

While Shadin wasn't entirely sure of all the changes which occurred in Seishi's absence, the male had enough sense to realize when someone has gone through a great ordeal. Normally, he'd be hearing endless whining and criticism at this point, but it seemed the bundle of scientific joy before him stifled all of that out of herself. Therefore, he'd play along and comment on that change:

"It's also equally impressive you haven't started crying your face off. I can't say I don't approve of the change, brat."

Twas a gentle swipe, but it came with his satirical package. Since, at this point, he was beginning to venture down the path of just treating most hurdles in life like a joke. That seemed like the best path, didn't it? Most of those villains and rouges seem to produce better results living by that code, perhaps he should as well. Apathy is a powerful coping skill.

Though, once again, before he could dwell down that alleyway of unending introspection, the girl started protesting at the missions being labeled "rancid". With that, a roll of the eyes came from the male and they didn't appear to be anything worthwhile to him. At least that's how Shadin viewed most of the lower ranking missions which were given out by the network.

He never really concerned himself anymore with any mission which didn't need his absurd manpower, influence or intelligence. It could be considered a form of arrogance, but he honestly didn't have time, energy or resources to waste on anything he considered beneath him. It was all a systematic process of absolving un-needed processes away from his mind to clear the strain and stress from his life.

Nevertheless, it seemed more important to focus in and observe the reaction which Seishi gave in light of recognizing the gravity of this situation. After a long pause, the girl then started speaking words of hesitation, fear and desire. Yeah, there was no doubt in his mind that she felt those things as it wasn't a question which wasn't loaded and filled with pressure. Most people would trip up and fall over being asked that given the context and light of the situation these two were under.

Still, however, it eventually came to a head and the answer he awaited for arrived soon enough. That yes was all that he needed in order to realize this was the correct path he was venturing down. He missed his family -- and he wanted to help rebuild them and bring them back to the fold of union and bond. So, this marked the first of many Yuudeshi's close to him being sought out.

Thus, Shadin would then hold her hand and nod his head in response to her answer before giving another question:

"Then tell me, are you ready to begin seeking them all out? I plan to locate and bring all those labeled as missing back to found. Do you want to help me on that task, kid?"

She wanted to roll her eyes at him again.

Of course she'd change, everyone did at some point. Even he changed. But, the girl stopped that before she went along - because she had the bad habit, no thanks to him, to get lost in thought - and just gave him a face. But honestly, it didn't really affect her. She figured this would happen at some point. She didn't want to realize it back then, but she knew. And that was fine, because the Yuudeshi girl knew that in the end, she and the rest of their family was Shadin's heart. Even if he couldn't be the heart and soul as he once was, they were there to help him, and pick up what slack they could. It was a simple thing. She would be fine, they all were. Even if she was afraid, she wasn't going to give up, not yet.

She couldn't let it hold her back. Shadin took her hand, and she gave him a brilliant smile. With a small squeeze, peace fluttered over her. Peace, and something like the emptiness that she had been feeling lately just seemed to vanish. She had been most afraid of coming back because she had been gone so long. She had settled herself, and almost decided to never come back. Because surely she had been happy there right? Though, when it came down to it, true happiness wasn't that. She wanted her family, and she wanted that close bond. Even if it was only for a little bit, if she had it, everything was fine. But she knew that if she kept being like that, if she kept settling to wait, she would never be truly happy. And that was a hard thing to swallow, even now.

Shadin's question was met with her smile, except it seemed a bit more ferocious. ''Gotta find everyone right? Even the ones that have been missing for a long, long time?'' she asked, remembering one of them. It had been so long, and she wondered if they were alright. ''Because, if so, then I'm ready. It's been a long time since we've all been together. I can't even remember the last time.'' she said, softly. Yeah, this she could do. Find everyone, bring them back, and stay with them. Relax, and find meaning in her new idea of self, with them. Would they except her, still? Would they all be so changed she can't recognize them? She wanted to see how her family had changed, and how they had grown.

Another squeeze, as her stomach rumbled. ''Feel like going out to eat first though?'' she asked, before starting to laugh softly. She was embarrassed, but happy all at once. She knew why she left, but she couldn't help but feel a smidgen of guilt each time she thought about it. If she had stayed, would Shadin have been happier? If she had just been able to take a moment calm down, would she have been alright? But she had just taken the mission, and left, and cut almost all contact for such a long time. She knew it would take her some time before she even got close to how she was before.

She knew her old place wasn't hers, but she had to make herself a new one now, right?

Artist: Deep Blood - Song: Maiko Iuchi - Word Count: 727

Touch was an interesting sensation, wasn't it? Humans were bonded by it and it helps to fuse the connection between most beings. In that instant where Seishi took his hand is the same instant where relief overflowed the two of them. As that acceptance and embrace was all that he needed in order to move forward.

So long as there were people behind him to keep getting progressively stronger for, there was no set limit for The Yuudeshi. Anything was possible and his vast and unending mind would strive to achieve that and materialize the goals, ambitions and dreams which his heart and soul harbored. It did not matter how lofty, far or exhausting the work and dedication had to be in order attain these visions, all that mattered was the fact he could feel the force of a family behind him and a people to take care of.

After spending many centuries as a father, it's rather hard for those parental instincts to just fade away over night. Therefore, a small smile could be seen from the otherwise grumpy and, quite frankly, pissed off looking Shadin. As he himself felt just as at ease and peace as Seishi was in that moment. For, if nothing else, it seemed that these two would at least find a portion of the puzzle to fill their strained and void spirits. And that was something which made him rather content and placid in this time of unrest, war and total lost of self.

"Aye. I can't feel complete without them."

Straight and to the point, the voice of Shadin was softer at this point, but it held quite a bit of earnest and genuine tones to it. With a glance to her stiffened body, perhaps she was bothered by the task since even he to realized it was a complex venture. Although, he also assumed she'd be able to bare the brunt of that burden. As, perhaps, she to sought that same feeling of embrace by family.

"Yeah. It's been quite the while since we've seen the whole family. Even I'm somewhat antsy about it, tch."

And that was the truth. There was no telling what the future held for the success of this mission, nor the long-term stability of it. Yet, something told him to keep going and pursue it even as the people around him seemed to dwindle to a handful. So long as he kept his sights positive and strong, things would work out eventually. Even if it took a year, a decade or a whole century; at some point -- things had to work. Without that hope, he'd be better off dead and that was the lesson he sought to prove against the embodiment of despair herself in the hell of Australia's War so many years ago.

Sentimental thoughts aside, something else was fairly important: food. After hearing the sounds of Seishi's stomach hungering, there was no doubt that this tiring and emotional downpour was making everyone starved of energy. Therefore, he'd give a nod of his head and agree that it was more than time to feed. As he himself was about to kill over after working himself half to death and not getting anything decent in his system.

Therefore, through The Yuudeshi Network, Shadin mapped out a personal wormhole for them to travel through. With the coordinates already imprinted, a white vortex would emerge before the two and connect them straight to the mess hall of The Yayjuu. There, they could find some actual hand-made food and re-group their thoughts with full stomachs.

Thus, with a nod of his head, The Beast of Karakura would then motion for Seishi to follow, but not before uttering these words to her:

"Well, let's get this show on the road. Come on, Last Order."

It had been awhile since he called her that, but it felt right. As if there was a sense of familiarity and routine in this world of surrealism. Regardless of that thought, however, time was wasting and he was in a hurry to eat himself. So, for her sake, he'd hope she'd follow quickly and stay at his side as they embarked on their new quest for family.
