Part of being alive. Did that mean Oodas had to go about living their life? Remembering back on it, even the men and women that sailed on the river that was once Oodas, they didn't seem to stop and look into the sky and marvel at its beauty. If this was something people did, that was part of being alive, then being alive seemed like too bittersweet of a state to be in. To have all this at your fingertips, but never have the time to really feel it all.

Oodas retracted, letting go of its human form and coming back to the state of being a slime ball. Its reiryoku clearly reflected the solemnity of its emotional state, and even the deep, dark blue of its body revealed the sadness within.

"Is living really that hard? Long ago, I dreamed of living, becoming just like the humans that swam and sailed over me for hundreds of years. They looked busy, sometimes happy and in revelry, more often sad and solemn. It looked fantastical, and being in revelry indeed was fantastical. Solemnity, not so much. I don't think I feel... sad. Just, confused, and disappointed. What is it that people could be so busy with and focused on, that they never even get the time to appreciate what's around them?"

"Not so much sadness and a lack of time, more the enormity of time stretches out in front of you. Some people admire the beauty of the world once a year, and for them, that is enough. The world's beauty is not changing, so they don't need to view it again. And they have a life to live, which is sometimes good, sometimes bad.

But, the thing is, you have to have bad moments in your life. You need the times when you are solemn and downcast. If every day was the best day ever, that would cease to mean anything. You would always be happy, and so being happy would lose it's meaning. When you have cheer without meaning, it ceases to matter"

"Is that so? Alright... I trust you Ulv."

Oodas hopped in place, rotating the slime ball body in a position that looked like it was facing Ulv, though it had no face to affirm that.

"What do people do when they are sad then? What do humans do? Can I do it as a slime ball too?"

Ulv would look at the horizon, and then back to the slime as he asked that question. It was a very good question, and one that Ulv would answer as well as she could.

"When people are sad, it depends on the person. Some do nothing, for they do not care to do anything. Some do nothing because they expect another will come and solve all their problems. Some seek the same other, but ask for aid and deal in exchange. Some seek to deal with it themselves. There are many things a person can do about their sadness. And yes, many things that can be done as a Slime"

Ulv's words were quite heartening. Especially the note on things to be done as a slime to feel better about being sad. Maybe, the things that were to be done was to proceeds towards coming to be okay first. Nothing would ever be okay, but maybe Oodas should at least try. Who knows--maybe things really will be okay. The slime hopped around again, bobbing back and forth, generating momentum.

"Okay Ulv, this time let's do what you like doing for fun! Doing fun things should even out the sad things I'm feeling. I don't want to encroach on your identity, but desperate times calls for desperate measures! Hark! What're we to do now, Captain Ulv!

"Do what I want to do? Hmm, it's late. I am thinking make dinner for everyone and then get some sleep. There is a difference between not needing it and not benefiting from it, after all" Ulv told Oodas, before turning from where she was and heading into the town, setting up a stand where she would prepare.

It was here she would show Oodas that life wasn't all about excitement and glory, but there was fun to be found in the little things. She would split the shark open and take his innards, filleting him with the grace of a master swordswoman. And when she had separated him and prepared him, she cooked him on a large grill.
