Jefferson | Bravo 1

“Let us move out!” Commander Richard commanded. Seeing as how Calypso and the other being are proving cooperative, he sees no reason in addressing them individually any further. Right now, they are part of his squad and shall be handled as such until proven otherwise. Their march to their destination is filled with as much silence as the other squads. The air is filled with anticipation that stilled their desire for small talk. After about 25 minutes, they would arrive at their destination, the remains of Jefferson City right in front of them, burned down and forever a reminder of the foolish acts of one man.

Richard, at the head of his squad did not waste time, stepping within the boundaries of the city and scouting the area on his own. Just as the reports relayed, not even a hint of activity. Troubling. Still, he ordered for his men to follow behind him, watching as they entered. General Jenkins and Omega 3 should be entering at this time as well. That is when he feels the sudden pulse of energy wash over him. That is when the operation went to Hell. The outline of the city began to glow moments before energy shot upwards, curling into itself as it reached its apex in the sky, forming a barrier that separated the outside world and the city. Luckily, all of his troops had made it into the city right before the barrier had constructed itself.

Next, the ground shook as the air began howling, Gargantas opening up in the sky and depositing Gillians that stood as gatekeepers outside the barrier. They did not move to attack, but the point of it all is clear. They’ve been trapped. It’s highly likely that the empty city is about to be filled with activity. Checking his earpiece, Richard began to check in on the other squads, quickly learning that Delta 2 had been severely crippled and Omega 3 had suffered some casualties as well. What a great start to an operation.

ENTER CALYPSO'S POST

Artist: SilvaGunner - Song: Hip Shop

"Stay close to me."

As the commander called for his squad to get moving, Calypso herself immediately got up and kept with the crowd, having taken Ky'rin's hand and leading them along with her. She kept as close to the center as she could, as she felt going too far forward or too far back would be just enough an excuse for them to think she was attempting to slip off, so she kept herself and the smaller being exactly where they could easily be seen, neatly folded in with the troop, however she was watching them right back, at one point gently nudging Ky'rin in front of her as they walked so that she could keep a better eye on them, and so nobody got any ideas.

She heard the occasional flutter of Yaksha's thoughts with her own, of which she tried to keep her reactions towards dulled; would be pretty shitty if anyone caught on to what the being she guarded close was capable of doing, she was imagining it'd look like a cooperative effort and they'd get this whole thing blamed on them, and it'd end pretty horribly. She didn't need the ability to read thoughts to know they needed any excuse to think any trouble in this city was their fault.

However, she herself was keeping her senses broad, quietly analyzing her surroundings. She planned on throwing out a warning the second she sensed anything, even if it were slight, but nothing... Nothing.. It was eerily quiet. There was no way the Vandenreich were trigger-happy enough to do a whole organized mission into an empty city dull with activity, right? Actually, it seemed far less active than normal; she had visited to tend to the garden she planted ever so often, and she at least sensed something, or saw the shadowy figures who dwelled beneath veils below veils of reality, in a realm of memory. But there was nothing. Not a thing here, not a beast stirred or a wind blew... Why?

She thought too soon, of course.

The energies in the area spiked so suddenly she almost felt her heart leap out of her chest. Her eyes widened, a sensation of anger burning in her mind.

Demonic.

For a moment, she felt more shame than anger as she watched the barrier form, effectively trapping them inside, a legion of hollows being dropped around the perimeter to act as gatekeepers. Her anger quickly flared back up at the sight, her expression possessing a look that could kill. Some idiot demon, or demons, clearly was playing at some shit here, and was using hollows to keep them in; Disgusting... Disgusting!

Yaksha's direct message interrupted her mental tangent towards how much those responsible for this little play would have her in their nightmares for months, prompting her to steady her breath and respond back,

Believe me, I have a good idea on how to make this go smoothly. This is going to be mutually beneficial, whether they like it or not.

Her gaze drew down to Ky'rin, her tone growing far softer and more considerate, Just come with me and don't do anything unless I tell you, okay? Also if you can relay everything you can do in a quick and quiet way, that'd help. I don't want them to know what you're capable of unless the situation demands it.

She calmly walked towards the Commander, keeping awareness of those around her as she did so,

"Scuse me, sir? Hi, over here."

She hollered amongst the crowd, waving a hand. Once she had his attention, her lips would part once more,

"If you'd care to hear my insight for a moment; So, no surprise to anyone here i'm sure, the barrier's demonic magic."

She looked up at it with a plain expression, "Waaaay too big and exact to be from anyone inexperienced, especially with the hollows being used the way they are, probably did something to them to make them obey directions. I'd have to guess it's either one very powerful demon who knows their shit, or a coordinated effort of demons with various skills to do... Something. Likelier to be the latter than the former, but ya never know."

She sighed, thinking for a moment, her hands gently resting on Ky'rin's shoulders, "I probably would be able to heavily damage or even break a barrier like this, but who's to say they weren't prepared for that, what if they have a second one on standby, or it's one of those barriers that just increases in strength the more you hit it? Clearly they were so prepared that they knew when you guys were coming... Would be easier to just find out who's doing this as soon as possible, and from where the source of the barrier seems to be... Looks to be the center."

She would then tilt her head, a glint of amusement in her eyes, "So, what say you? Or are you just gonna blow me off because of who I was born to? Cuz, this doesn't seem to be the time to dwell on prejudices and grudges, sir."

Of course, she would relay these theories and thoughts to Yaksha as well, just to keep him up with her guesses based on what she knew.

INFANT ELDER GOD

The situation that Ky'rin had found itself in was... less than optimal but it was going to make the most of it anyways. For a lack of a better word, Ky'rin was assigned a babysitter for seemingly no good reason. There wasn't going to be a way around it so by this point it has made its peace with that fact, and luckily there was someone else to share their pain. Their thoughts now linked, Calypso has begun to open up somewhat to this Calypso character as it watched their actions from afar.

Meanwhile, while they were busy getting watched and escorted like prisoners. It seemed like things faired just as well for their white monster friend that they had, though he reminded Ky'rin of Iota, being the kind of person who always had a plan. He gave advice to Calypso though Ky'rin would follow it as well since it seemed like good advice, while also listening to what Calypso had said to do as well. It was to act inconspicuous, as to not tip off anyone about what it could do just yet.

Fine.

And with that, it did nothing. The moment for action would come, hopefully soon because Ky'rin was starting to get bored.

Saisei Satō | Lookin' For His Place In Life

The boy couldn't help himself. It was all too clear how little he lacked interest in regards to their special little visitors. As any good recruit would, Saisei remained at his commander's side as the moved further into the city. There was little time for chat, even less time for the sideways stares and snide remarks that would be found from the recruit. Nevertheless, his thoughts continued to race with anger. Saisei found the entire situation to be comical. Their guests were unwelcomed to him.

As the squad of troops entered what remained of Jefferson City, Saisei took note of the space they occupied. For a troop as large as theirs, it was pretty out of the ordinary to have such little reaction. As always, the boy's ability to passively ooze his energy among the area was one he took quite a lot of pride in. It made for tracking to be far easier compared to the common Quincy.

"Hm..."

His readings came up entirely empty, a lack of both presence and energy signature left the boy wary. Clearly, he wasn't wary enough it seemed. As soon as he began to pool his energy back together, the city itself shifted on a dime. What was previously an empty reading had spiked at an alarming rate, a cage like structure beginning to swallow the city whole. Comical, the whole operation was absolutely comical.

"Well, that couldn't be more obvious, could it? This sure is a trap huh?"

Saisei was almost candid with his words, in a sense it was almost a scoff at the idea of having people like the Asthavon and the hollow around. They'll claim they had no baring on the situation but given the demonic cage that swarmed them and the complete absurdity of the city's signatures, it definitely seemed planned.

Before he could turn to his commander for guidance, the words of the Asthavon rang throughout the air. To Saisei, they were filled with pettiness and intrusion. Her and the child's appearance among their people was suspicious, her words made it even more concerning. To him, the annoyance in her phrasing was childish at best.

"We'll do as the commander leads, if he's open to ideas then so be it. Couldn't help but find your presence and the current circumstances pretty damn suspicious. A job's a job, I guess."

Turning back to the commander, Saisei stood at attention before speaking once more.

"Ready to start whenever you are, Sir. Given the mass of signatures appearing from nowhere and the current predicament surrounding the city, it is clearly an ambush of some sorts. I figure everyone outside knows too, given, y'know..." He pointed to the sky at the demon barrier above them.

"We'll likely see action sooner rather than later, doesn't seem too friendly of an environment at the moment."

The boy was on edge given all that had already happened, this only made that exact situation worse.

i'm about to drop off,
drift into a deep fog

As the team made their way, Loukas was stiff, on edge. It wasn't an obvious change in his body language, underneath the white hood and cloak, but for those who already had spent time with him and those who were paying attention, it was clear enough. The cause of his discomfort could have been assumed to be anything: the mission itself, the presence of a demon, or maybe he was just constipated.

None but Loukas knew the truth. His thirst had been growing lately. A bloodpack used to last him a day or two, and now it gave him mere hours before he felt parched once more. Still, that wasn't even at the top of his list of worries right now. Yes, it brought him great discomfort, but the sueki knew he had to keep focused on this mission, no matter what, or her would surely lose his life.

Speaking of the mission... clearly something unexpected had happened. Loukas wasn't sure it was his place to speak on anything, to think of anything they could possibly do. He certainly wasn't as strong as the commander, or the demon, or even his fellow recruit Saisei. He had his own strengths, but even then, he acknowledged and accepted he wasn't on their level of sheer power. While he himself wanted to eventually grow stronger, it wasn't like he could do anything right now about the current power gap.

Still, it felt a little awkward being with the others when he was like this.

Either way, he stood at attention, eyes fixed on the commander to wait for orders, fangs slightly peeking out with the grimace he had on.

LOUKAS.

Jefferson | Bravo 1

“Silence.”

Calypso, Saisei, every one of them. All were met by a simple order. It is difficult to concentrate with all the noise. Jenkin’s report is harrowing. Half his team gone in a second? At least Omega 3 hasn’t lost anyone. He’s lucky to not have lost anyone either, but they’re going to have to proceed with caution. A trap was suspected, but for it to activate so soon proved suspicious. Were they too upfront about this mission? Did their scouts miss someone infiltrating their camp? It would be too easy to blame all the coincidences.

“Omega 3, scatter formation. Provide Delta 2 with extra support. We shall continue with the mission. There is no turning back from this point.”

Orders given to the other squads, Richards turns back to his own. First, he steps to Calypso.

“Asthavon. Take point in the front. Since we are dealing with demons, you are apt at sensing any anomalies around us. Saisei! Take the child and watch over it. I shall have the demon by my side. Let us all get in a tight formation and move out. We are still keeping with the mission.”

Despite the slight lack of morale, with his orders, everyone starts moving as he takes his place at the front. Obviously, the tension has risen by a fair bit. That is fine. It should keep everyone on their toes for what’s to come. Without further delay, they would begin their march through the decimated city.

Quiet as when they first entered, it would seem that the barrier was the only thing set up against them. Not even another wave of demonic energy as they already near the halfway point through the city. Richards is unsure of what is going on, but he would rather something happen than nothing. Apparently, his silent prayer is all that was needed to shift the atmosphere. Suddenly, there’s a wave of something washing over the team, a violent stench that burned the hairs in his nostril.

Walking around a black mound, a big wobbling creature emerged. Once thing would notice is how fat it is. The next is the giant crude black staple-like things poking out of its stomach holding skin that appears to be ripped and barely covering the slight bit of organs leaking from its gut. Its hold body seems to be held together by staples, each limb seemingly different from one another, in color and size. With a face that only a mother could love or hate, eyes devoid of color stare forward at the party before this creature sat down on the ground. With a belch, demonic energy wafted from its mouth as bat-like creatures started to swarm around it. General Richards, of course, stopped the party and looked at this abomination with apprehension, stepping forward from everyone to speak.

“I assume you’re part of the welcoming party or maybe just a wandering demon. Whichever, I’m going to have to ask that you move out of our way.”

The demon only replied by raising a meat cleaver in its hand over its shoulder and belched again as the surrounding bats started to grow more aggravated. Calypso would sense the sudden rise in demonic energy before everyone else as the surrounding Earth started to bulge before tinier demons, ranging from humanoids to canines emerged. Another trap it seems, but Richards is quick to move, readying his bow and firing upon the carcass of demons that have finally showed themselves to the party.

“All hands to battle!” And, from that point, their pleasant walk became a battlefield.

She held Ky'rin close to her as she lamented that the last comment probably wasn't super necessary, perhaps a bit mean.. It's alright, she'd make up for it by doing well to help. However, the young man who was practically glowering at her earlier tossed out a hinting that she wasn't especially fond of. The only thing she gave him was an irritated stare before waving him off; this wasn't the time to fight amongst themselves - if his aggressions got particularly bothersome, she'd deal with them later.

Then the Commander would give them their orders; the order in particular that made her wary was for her to be separate from Ky'rin, up front. She wouldn't argue with him, if anything that probably would be best - she was the one with the eye for this stuff. However, as she was directing the smaller being to go over to Saisei, she'd toss one statement in through their connection:

It's alright, just go stay with him for right now. If he does anything bad to you, let me know immediately.

With a brief nod, she would stand up straight, giving Ky'rin a kind gesture in the form of a head pat and a smile, walking over to the Commander and walking by him as they proceeded. She kept her senses broad, head lifted as she analyzed her surroundings carefully for even the slightest uptick in activity. It didn't take too long for that to come, her gaze like daggers on a black mound as the scent of what she could only assume was decay on the wind. She watched the gorey, jiggling creature emerge from the mound, hissing to the Commander under her breath,

"Demonic."

She couldn't call this thing a typical demon; it had stronger inclinations towards being a familiar or some disturbing experiment than a naturally born creature of her race. Everything about it looked manufactured rather than natural, and it's emotional lexicon seemed incredibly simple, if it even existed.

Her eyes flicked up to watch as it belched, seeing bat-like creatures gather around it as it did so. Was it some sort of summoner, to slow them down? That'd make sense; put down a familiar as a landmine and hope it's forces can take them out or at least wear them down. Too bad, they probably didn't expect her to be there to help. This was met with her suddenly forming a pair of brilliantly glowing wings, her stance readied.

She felt her skin tingle like a cold chill had suddenly hit her as the being before them belched once more, causing demonic energies in the area to suddenly spike, hordes of creatures bursting from the earth. Her head quickly whipped back to address the squad before doing her first move, dark scales already forming on her face as her body shot with adrenaline,

"I'll handle the big one! Nobody else attack it yet!"

There were only two possible catalysts for the summon - Either it was the bats, or the belching. Whatever it was, she had to figure out what it was before it could summon any more hordes. Her hands and feet morphed and changed into dragon-like talons as she suddenly burst off of the ground, having made her body as light as a feather as she bolted towards the far larger being, aiming for the bats first as she would then abruptly dissolve her wings, letting her body do the work.

With quick succession, if all went well she would go for one at a time, slashing them to bits with her beastly claws, swiping them out of the air and otherwise working til she was either stopped or all the bats were dead. Even if they weren't the catalyst, it'd at least be an irritant out of the way.

Saisei Satō | Lookin' For His Place In Life

The boy was beside himself. Given the current circumstances, someone of his nature had little to no interest in the disgusting creatures that plagued their group. Nevertheless, as his Commander gave out orders to begin the operation proper, Saisei entered a mode of little thought. Instinct took over as he was given his orders, his understanding of both his position and importance being taken far seriously than a new recruit could ever replicate.

Despite his previous scouring, Richards had made the boy's assignment clear. Without hesitation, Saisei moved towards the tiny being in response. Keeping the, what he assumed, young girl at his side was priority one. Keeping them in front of him at all times, Saisei turned towards the back of their grouping in order to show Loukas a simple bit of hope for the coming pressure they'd be experiencing.

"Don't stray too far, Loukas. Can't have anything bad happenin' to you. A promise is a promise, after all."

While surely the boy knew nothing about Saisei's so called 'promise', the importance would hold firm. He had made clear to himself how important it was that everyone came out of this alive. The Vandenreich didn't need severe casualties, if it were up to him, Saisei would even sacrifice himself for the greater good of the group. Being able to see those who entered leave without regret is all he could wish for. After all, he was putting his life on the line already. He had a job to do.

As the group moved with haste, the sickly stench of demon began to waft over the crowd as quickly as they had entered. With that stench, the group rounded the corner of a rather large mound and were finally face to face with an enemy. An enemy? It was grotesque, its limbs being barely held together by what only seemed like industrial grade staples. It was disgusting, Saisei's hand clenching at the back of the young being's shirt as he watched Richards request aid.

"Tch."

Saisei clicked his tongue against his teeth out of anger, Calypso taking charge after the enemy without hesitation. Richards depended on a demon to do work when Saisei, a full fledged member of the Vandenreich was expected to wrangle a child to safety. It was degrading, to say the least. As his commander made the call to begin, the boy couldn't help but feel a tinge of frustration. Given his best bet was to find himself baring down on the grotesque being before him, he couldn't help but be beyond annoyed that he was standing still, watching the area like a hawk as he tried his best to protect the young being under his wing.

"Loukas, keep your eyes open. A hint of danger and you find yourself yelling for me, you understand?"

He yelled to his fellow recruit as he turned back towards the little one standing in front of him.

"Keep yourself near, refrain from leaving. Last thing I need is a dead kid in my arms."

As he spoke, Saisei could only fend off the lesser demons that began to crawl from the ground itself. He was relatively easy for someone of his ilk, after all. Keeping the young girl in his vision at all times, he went to work with his Commander and began his assault on the lesser horde. Blow after blow, Saisei pressured the horde with his unworldly strength. This was all he could do for now, especially with his previous goal of protection in mind.

"Don't let up. Keep on your toes, everyone."

His words rang throughout their tight knit group as his fist went flying once more, attempting to connect with a nearby demon's jaw. The force behind the blow would be enough to nearly separate the being's head from its body. If it hit, of course.

This would be a long day, it seemed.

i'm about to drop off,

The creature in front of them was, frankly, nauseating to look at. An amalgamation of random parts, apparently filled with demonic energy, if Loukas was understanding the Asthavon woman right. Although part of that was his own personal thoughts on what the hell it was, considering it looked nothing like any demon he'd ever seen. When Calypso began to transform, though, he thought about retracting that sentiment. After all, she began to look just as monstrous.

Before he began to stare, Loukas forced himself to look away, focusing on the situation in front of them rather than the one within their ranks. As the Commander called the start of battle, Loukas slipped his dagger out, gripping it with surprisingly steady hands. Taking a deep breath, he steeled himself for the coming fight.

"You got it, Saisei." After all, even he himself knew he was weaker than the majority here. Even so, Loukas brandished his dagger, and set to work, staying near his fellow recruit, but still trying to contribute as he swiftly moved to stab one of them.

LOUKAS.

Jefferson | Bravo 1

Making light of the situation, the demonic ambush proved nothing more but child's play for the Quincy about. It seems that the main force against were little hassle for their organization. The soldiers created groups, a few circling in on one another, forming tight formations that kept themselves from being surprised or surrounded. Saisei was not alone in this fight, having the support of those nearby whenever he seemed to get surrounded.

Over to where Calypso is, the large demon that she neared did not move as she started to attack the bats that surrounded it. Instead, it watched her, its beady eyes moving without its head following. The bats, as they were slewed, fell towards the ground, but, halfway, the cleaved remains started bubbling and bulging grotesquely before the bats grew new parts. What was one bat, potentially grew into as many bats as there were pieces. These new bats began to stir erratically, swooping towards Calypso with no attack pattern. Their sharp claws and teeth bite and scrape against her hard hide as the larger demon’s eyes moved away from her and towards Richards.

“What?! Jenkins is what?!” Omega 3’s report is unbelievable. Jenkins? Gone? The squad reduced to a piss poor version of itself with barely any soldiers remaining? He was correct in having more operatives head that way to provide support. However, he’s unable to move from his spot or send operatives that way, himself. With the onslaught of demons, it’s hard to get an exact barring of the situation.

“Men! Huddle up! We’re moving forward through these demons. Tighten your formations into one and barrel thr-”

The unexpected happened. The large demon’s chest seemed to warp and twist as the staples holding it together started coming undone. With barely an indication, its stomach opened wide, a disgusting looking long strip of meat with a sharp tooth like hook at the end of it. It shot out like a harpoon piercing demons and operatives alike before it went straight through Richards’ chest. His mouth agape by the sudden bone sticking out of his person, he doesn’t even get out another word before he is yanked towards the demon, its stomach closing as Richards and everything else caught by its attack is devoured whole.
