Midori's division sure was quiet, it was a peaceful place where people didn't really rush about to do stuff or everyone was yelling about something. It was a very pleasant environment. One could attribute it to the fact that it was the kido and healing division and recovery probably was done best in a peaceful environment. Erika was laying in the bed that she was provided for her stay as she mused about how the divisions were all just clumped together or some just removed comletely. It shouldn't be forgotten she was not here for the changes to the Gotei. Everything still confused her and she was afraid to venture out most of the time in case she got lost.

I wonder how much longer I am here for, Henrex is around here somewhere or at least I think he is. I should probably visit him at some point. Momo, there's also Momo. Aside from them, who else really was I close to?

When no more names came up Erika could only bite her lip and cringed. "I'm not really that lonely am I?" The shinigami got up and began to get dressed in her clothes, a little glad no one had come and bothered her since she wasn't exactly dressed before then.

Midori. I wonder if she's busy, I don't really know where Tsubine is and Midori's the only other person here I know. She wouldn't mind would she? She seemed awfully nice, she wouldn't mind my company would she? Ah let's just do it. Nothing really to lose and it beats being in bed all day.

Having made her resolve it was time to walk through the hallways -being careful to avoid the other shinigami - until she finally figured out where Midori was and stood at her office door for a moment. It was that moment of hesitation, where Erika was concerned that she might annoy the captain with the interruption. While Midori could easily have sensed her energy, probably even determined who's it was as she just stood there for a moment and then proceeded to knock.

"Midori? I'm sorry to interrupt you. Are you busy?"

Midori Hayashi

Captain of the Second Division

With the excitement that had been occuring over the last week, some peace and quiet was always welcome. Of course, Midori's experience with peace and quiet was always accompanied by papers to sign. She sat calmly behind her desk, her hair pulled back behind her and a pair of glasses hanging barely on the tip of her nose. She was focused on the work in front of her, moving from page to page to read and sign the next document. She finally got to one she had to think about and leaned back in her chair, staring at the name "Shio Mora." Her attention was pulled from it when she sensed a familiar reiatsu outside her office door. She waited, wondering if the knock was coming.

The knock came and Midori stood up, setting the paper face down on the desk, and moving to the door. She cracked it open and peeked through at Erika. "You alright?" she asked curiously. Erika wasn't one she expected to show up at her door when Tsu was around again. Maybe Tsu ran off? "I don't know where Tsubine is if that's why you're here, little one." she said kindly and opened the door all the way. She turned back toward the desk, removed her glasses, and rubbed her eyes. "I've been staring at paperwork too long."

The small wait between Midori coming over to open the door and her comment made her wonder if it was the best choice. What if Midori didn't want to see her? What if the woman was busy? It wasn't until the captain cracked the door open and peeked through that Erika felt those thoughts get shelved. Of course she was alright! Erika did feel a little hurt that Midori instantly assumed something was wrong when she showed up but it made sense after she continued. It made sense that Midori would assume it had something to do with Tsubine but Midori was on the wrong track.

"If your eyes hurt we can go outside. It's probably bad to spend so much time inside looking at paperwork. Some fresh air would do you good, and I'm not here because of Tsubine being gone. Well I am sort of, it's more that I know where she is but I didn't want to shadow her. I think I'm already a little clingy, I don't want to smother her but I just have nothing to do here. I don't know anyone, I have no occupation or career here so here I am. You don't mind if I take a bit of your time do you?"

She looked at Midori in the full now, a little surprised the woman had glasses. Erika would've thought if someone could use extremely potent Kaido they would fix their body's shortcomings. Maybe Midori was old like her and found it nostalgic. Phantom Tech was always one of those things the girl felt she'd never embrace or understand she missed the older world that was left behind.

"Midori. How did you meet Tsubine? I hope you don't mind the question and she would talk about you sometimes but she never told me how the two of you met."

She hoped that by this point she could be walking with Midori or even be sitting down in her office with her at least. She didn't want to converse the way they were at the door.

Midori Hayashi

Captain of the Second Division

"Yeah, probably, but I've still got some things I need to get done," Midori explained and began piling a few things up on her desk to make it look more organized, "I'm taking a break for now though. If you want to head outside to talk, we can." If Erika was coming to her, there was a reason for it. The two weren't exactly close, so Erika probably needed someone to talk to, which was fine with Midori. How else do you get to know someone? Midori set her glasses on the table and turned back to Erika, motioning toward the door so she'd step out first. "Come on. Let's go." she said before closing up her office and heading outside of the building toward some outside lounge areas.

Midori led Erika to a garden like area. It was mostly for those in recovery to walk around and get some exercise and sun, but it was a nice place to relax. The decorative stone paths weaved through perfectly green grass, each path leading in and out of areas with stone tables for people to relax at. Midori sat down at one of these empty tables, waving to one of her subordinates as they passed by. "So, what's going on?" she said, starting up the conversation. To her surprise, a pleasant one, Erika just asked about something more personal. Was this just a regular casual meeting? "How did she and I meet?" Midori repeated and thought on it. Her face dulled and then she chuckled.

"That... That's a story." Midori shook her head, a light blush of embarrassment on her cheeks as the memory replayed in her head, "Some guy was asking me out and your Mother liked him and I could tell, so I said somethin' like... 'We aren't ever happening; she's hotter anyway, so go for her' and he did, which pretty much screwed his chances with either of us. What a jerk..." Midori shook her head again, chuckling more at the memory.

The young woman was very happy when she wasn't turned away and Midori instead opted to take a break and spend time with her. Standing at the door and watching the captain go about getting ready she waited patiently until it came time to head off. With her small form walking to the side and a little behind her so that she could avoid someone by ducking behind Midori if they needed to slip past. She didn't want to get in the way after all. When at last they reached their destination the wanderer sat down with the older woman and watched the subordinate walk past and wave back to Midori. She seemed like a good captain, everyone appeared to enjoy her company and presence.

Needless to say when the captain spilled her guts about how Tsubine and her met Erika looked a little red, not because the story or anything but the fact Midori directly referred to Tsubine as her mother. In the past it would always just be "captain and subordinate" by others, everyone saw the relationship was more but never really commented on it. It felt a little new to her.

"So really he wasn't interested in you, well he was but he didn't want you.. I mean, it was lust. Not love. I didn't know that about Tsubine, she never talked much about romance to me."

Her eyes shifted to look at the environment as she pondered that little piece of knowledge, she hadn't expected something like that. Erika would once again look at Midori as she tried to figure out if she should ask another question or wait for Midori to, after all she didn't want to overwhelm her with questions. One more couldn't hurt though, then she'd wait for Midori to ask one to make it more of a conversation and less of a one-sided Q & A.

"What's it like being a captain? I was a Vice-Captain of the Fifth Division for a while when Momo Hinamori was incapable of her duties from the Aizen incident. I never really got to get the overwhelming duty of being a Captain, although I never really wanted it."

Now that was true, Erika had no intention of being a captain. She would never expose to much of her skill or capabilities it was much more pleasant as Tsubine's subordinate before she moved on into the Zero Division. Erika at that point just stayed rather mundane in her role but the captain role had always made her a little curious about it. After that question was over and if Midori still thought that Erika was going to ask another question she'd top it off to make sure the captain was aware.

"Now ask me a question, I don't want to just shoot question after question at you. Conversations don't really develop from one-sided questions and answers that's just an interrogation"

Midori Hayashi

Captain of the Second Division

Midori giggled a bit. "No, definitely not interested in me, or your Mother, to be honest. Some men want a prize, a girl all the boys are taking about, and some of those men think that by asking, they'll get it. Your Mother and I are much more confident in ourselves than to have some butt scratching monkey as a boyfriend." Midori replied, taking note of that 'with me' comment Erika made on the romance subject. Tsubine wasn't one to really talk about that kind of stuff, so it isn't surprising. And to be honest, since Tsubine likely doesn't know how to be a Mother, she probably isn't entirely aware of a daughters desire to inquire about a mother's past interests in that subject.

The next question that came was more of a common one. Midori was thinking about what exactly Erika wanted out of this meeting, and it was soon becoming obvious that Erika just wanted to get to know each other. If that was the case, Midori'd be happily to oblige. "Well, it's tough at times. A lot of people are counting on you, and the idea of letting them down has the ability to tear your heart apart. Of course, that's more my view. I've learned every Captain has a different style, set of values, and so on... We all work under the same laws, but we run our Squads very differently. For example, if you want to be a part of my squad, you're going to be well-versed in every single art their is. There is no "focus" here, unless you've chosen the healing or kido sections. And even if you have, your Hakuda and Zanjutsu training are still a priority. I've said it a lot to my subordinates, and will continue to... What happens to the injured... if the healer is dead? Healers... we can't die..."

That last bit caused Midori to sort of fade out. She glanced off to the side and into deep thought. Whether it was recalling an old memory or remembering something she needed to do, it was a serious expression. She shook her head and came back into the conversation though. "I can partly agree with that. Sometimes one person asking a question can help another open up. Some people have hard time asking them and need someone to ask questions to guide their ability to continue a conversation..." Midori explained with a happily smile, "I'm not one of those though, so you don't have to worry. I do have a question for you though. Your Mother, you said she doesn't talk to you about romance and stuff like that... Is that something you're interesting in learning about? Romance in general or just learning more about her?"

A small smile came to Erika's lips at Midori's comments about boyfriends being monkeys. She was glad to know her mother had standards, not to say she ever doubted Tsubine or anything. No, but it felt strangely pleasing that Midori showed Tsubine to be exactly what her daughter thought of her.

Her second question was answered as well, giving her an idea of what Midori's job was like and the way she did things. Her values came out a little and Erika saw just how this woman constructed herself. She sought to stop death itself. Healers can't die. It made her wonder, how many had Midori lost? How had it affected her? Was this woman so selfless she mourned for every person she couldn't save? The younger shinigami had to admit it sounded a little sad yet noble as well to sacrifice oneself to the cause that Midori did.

Finally the question that the woman gave Erika would draw a rather embarrassed result, her face burned crimson and she waved her hands furiously at the idea. She hadn't thought that her conversations were going that way at all and she hoped the captain wouldn't assume that it was anything related to that.

Oh god! She thinks I'm asking about romance... she probably thinks I'm such a kid and stuff, I know.... absolutely nothing about romance.

At that point Erika's gestures and embarrassment came to a stand still and she looked very deep in thought, surely at some point she understood romance or love. Nope, the entire idea was foreign to her.

"Umm.. well, I thought I knew about romance, but thinking about it I really don't have any clue. I couldn't understand romance when you explained Tsubine and her disappearance to me. So I guess, I could learn more about romance though I don't like romance and I want learn about you and Mu-"

It was a little moment of idleness, she dozed off and Midori kept on referring to Tsubine as her mother. She looked embarrassed, more so than when she was accused of asking about romance. She wondered just how Tsubine would've reacted if she had heard it, would she be mad? Would she just not care? Erika wondered if Midori would speak about her mistake. She hoped not.

Midori Hayashi

Captain of the Second Division

Midori was intrigued with the embarrassment that Erika apparently felt over calling Tsubine Mom. She closed her eyes, smiled, and shook her head at the blush she saw in Erika's cheeks. "Why does that embarrass you?" Midori asked, her head tilted a little to the side, "When you first punched your way back into my life, you were pissed. You thought she didn't consider you her little girl, and were desperate to want to be her biological daughter. Now that she's called you her own, you're shy about calling her Mom? Haha. Come on, Erika. If I'm saying it more natural than you, there might be a thing or two you want to think about." Midori smirked at Erika, pushing at her buttons a bit.

"No, but don't really worry about it. It's a change. A lot happened recently, and it may take you some time." Midori said and leaned back, stretched and then relaxed again, "When it comes to the romance thing, if that's something you wanna learn about, don't be shy. Just ask. I'm no master though; I've not had a boyfriend, or even a date, in... I couldn't tell you the last time. I guess I'm more of a career woman now. The best thing to do is ask your Mom, maybe." Midori gave a shrug, "So are you thinking of rejoining the Gotei again? Haven't asked Tsu about it yet." That was a weird subject since Midori had actually been thinking on quitting herself. It was a strange thought, one she wrestled with a lot. At the moment though, no one knew about it.

Her eyes looked away when Midori asked her what was so embarrassing. It was that stigma, Midori was right as she always seemed to be to Erika. She was so used to calling Tsubine by her first name that she felt it would make Tsubine feel uncomfortable if Erika kept on calling and referring to her as "Mum".

She wanted to intercept her comment in between Midori but she knew to let the older and much wiser woman continue. She made some excellent points which made her shift a little in her spot and rest her arms on the table. It was a little annoying to hear the words but at the same time she wasn't going to get mad. Did she not resolve to better herself when Tsubine returned?

"I mean... It's just, I wanted to call her Mum before she ran away and when she did I thought it was because she was uncomfortable with my presence. So even when she acknowledged me as her daughter I'm still scared that if I call her Mum she might run off again. I think it's even worse, since she left once already it seems easier to imagine as something she'd do again. Don't laugh Midori."

Giving a little pout at the woman she leaned back and thought about Midori's words. Any questions she had? Well there were so many! She had never really thought about this stuff and now it was becoming so clear how little she knew. A five year old probably knew more than her.

"Well... firstly, what's it like to kiss.. a boy? Umm, what do people mean by third date? How do know when I like someone? Should I wait for them to ask me out? Uhhh, what if I fall in love with two people what should I do?What's a french kiss?"

She let the flood gates open, it was unlikely Midori would get them all whether she missed some with how quickly Erika was tossing them out. One could simply not get them all or if they could Midori must have some kind of legendary focus to her name. She almost forgot she had been asked about her plans and looked around a little uncertain.

"I don't feel like I belong here anymore Midori, I mean. I'm not really someone who takes change very easily, all this technology and stuff is confusing and I still don't understand it. I feel the change to Gotei United has only made it seem more eerie for me, it lacks the same thing the Gotei Thirteen had for me and well, I want to stay with Tsubine. If for some reason she wouldn't let me I think I'd want to join your division, I'm as good with kido as I am with zanjutsu but I'll give it a shot. If you don't mind and Tsubine tells me to stay away that is, but I haven't really talked with her much about it. I just spend time with her although I think I'm getting to clingy with her since she came back"

Midori Hayashi

Captain of the Second Division

Midori could only smile at the worries of the young girl in front of her. She understood her fears, but she doubted Erika's fear coming to reality. "Well, I don't think that'll happen. The moment you actually say it, you'll likely make the woman cry." Midori said and nodded, "So maybe wait for that perfect moment? Wait for when you two are talking about something serious and she makes you really happy. Or maybe when she helps you with something important or just a moment that you two are happily bonding." Midori hoped that would help and was not expecting the barrage of questions that came.

"Well, I... To the surprise of most, I can't... answer that first one." Midori let that sink in for a moment and just smiled sort of sheepishly. She had never kissed a guy before. Midori rarely put romance as a top priority since her history with men was always "you're hot, so I want you." In her opinion, there was little point to starting a relationship on that kind of crap. "As for the third date, some people use it as a basic marker for when a person should open up more intimately to the person they're dating. For example, some people look at the third date as the time to kiss, invite someone into your home, or go further. It all depends from person to person, but it generally means kissing."

"Waiting for them to ask you out can often be as detrimental as asking them out first. It's another person-to-person basis." Midori stopped there, thought a moment, and then realized something, "Erika... You're a person. You have needs, wants, insecurities, values, and many other things, but that also means that so do I, so does the person who likes you, and so does the person you like. It's all about getting to know each other. If you find out the guy you like is shy, especially toward girls, that's one of those situations where you should nicely and calmly tell him you're interested. If a man is more confident, them asking you out is more likely... Huh, wait a minute. Question, Erika. I should have asked this before, but are you into men or women?"
