The First's Dog

Junko's day off. It was pretty simple, unfortunately. Even on days off, the little girl had quite the schedule ahead of her. In most cases, as it was today and everyday she had off, Junko found herself doing the one thing she seemed to occupy a majority of her free time with lately, she trained. Despite the quiet day the First Division barracks was having, small grunts and the swipe of a sheathe meeting the air rang over and over. Seemed like the little one was already on her way to draining her energy for the day.

"Hyaaa!"

The girl's voice squeaked as she swung downward, gripping the sheathe of her blade almost too aggressively. The skin on her knuckles became near pale white, a color that was almost too akin to her skin tone, another swing meeting the air again before she huff and puffed her way onto the ground. Wiping away at her forehead and trying her best to dry off the sweat she'd accumulated, Junko sighed. It was pretty clear that, as things were now, she wasn't really going to progress anytime soon. Especially if she stayed on her own as she had been.

Even with her new found independence, it seemed like there wasn't much for someone like the girl. Unseated in the first, a majority of her time was spent filling out paperwork or heading off to other divisions to deal with their issues. If not doing that, she was here, swatting away at empty air and ducking any real interaction with others. For someone who had only just recently gone from indentured servant to having freedom, this wasn't really a great way of life.

Looking from the sun to the grass beneath her, Junko sighed. Life was starting to get stale.

"Sure is the liiiiiiife."

Elyss Kishimoto | Red

"Sup?" Elyss greeted.

Hands in her jacket pockets, red hair down her back, and an air that lacked anything but relaxed swagger: Elyss had found herself standing behind the lone albino like an everyday occurrence. Lacking any insignia, Elyss existed outside her role as Captain, wandering around without a care in the world, only her thoughts as company. She had no destination while walking through the First Division, but the sole practitioner had caught her attention. Call it boredom.

But, closer now, Elyss recognizes the woman. She's that gal that comes by the Seventh with papers and stuff at times. Her knuckles are rather pale. It looks like someone's been training hard, or as hard as they could.

The First's Dog

It didn't take long for Junko to find herself sprawled to a sitting position. Her legs were bent and exhaustion had taken hold as the tiny thing dried the sweat along her brows. Tired was an understatement, fiddling around with her Zanpakuto before giving a quick sigh. Little to no time spent swinging at practically nothing wasn't going to do her any good, let alone sitting her like she was deadweight. If she was going to do the First justice, she'd need to get better. Average wasn't enough.

"Huh."

Leaning backwards towards the voice that called out to her, Junko's upside-down head stared almost blankly at the newcomer. That was of course until surprise started to filter its way through her face. Her blank stare quickly turned to surprise mixed with shades of red as she scurried herself to her feet, wiping at whatever grass stains and sweat might have built up on her. What kind of luck was it that Elyss, the captain of the Seventh would be paying a visit. Finally to her feet and presentable, Junko gave an almost halfhearted bow before trying her best to seem normal.

"M-Ma'am. I wasn't expecting anyone today, let alone a captain. Did you need anything? Can I do something for you? I'm ready and willing."

She was tripping over her words as she tried her best to make herself seem useful for the captain. If it weren't for the sweat-drenched uniform and quickened words maybe she would have passed off as normal. Unfortunately for Junko, she was the epitome of a mess. Great start to her day.

Elyss Kishimoto | Red

Elyss tilted her head.

"Something for me? No. I just saw you training and thought I'd join in. Looks like you need something."

Call it a moment's notice, but just like that, Elyss is hooked. It's rare for her to interact with any person, so it's probably extremely out of pocket for her to simply walk up and be like this. But who cares? Boredom calls, and she can tell Junko's not feeling her usual routine either. Shaking things up is nice every now and then, but again, Elyss simply moves at her own tempo. Either get with it or stay out her way.

"Pick up your Zanpakuto. Let's go," The redhead chimed as she stepped past Junko and walked a bit away, stretching: some arm pulls, squats, and a back pop.

"Ready whenever you are."

Casual despite Junko's ramblings, Elyss began to hum. Refusal would seem impossible for the tired gal probably, but when given lemons, just make lemonade.

Frankly, Junko was left with a sense of confusion by the captain of the Seventh. She did practically nothing to deserve a one on one training session with someone that, for all intents and purposes, held a standard that very few could match within the Gotei. Despite her confusion though, Junko would let herself lose out on a once in a lifetime chance like this. Squatting to grab her Zanpakuto, the small girl turned towards the captain and readied herself.

"I know I'm not the best around, let alone someone you might find interesting. But, if I can say, Ma'am. I really appreciate this."

Wiping at the sweat forming across her brows for a second time now, she gave herself a moment to pull herself together. Can't take this chance for granted, she thought. If Elyss Kishimoto was willing to give her the time of day she definitely couldn't go and just disappoint her, now could she? Taking the general stance all Shin'o graduates were capable of, she pointed her blade towards Elyss with a broad smile.

"I'll do whatever you want, Ma'am. Thank you for the chance!"

With that said, Junko went on the offensive. Slash after slash, her already achy arms had become reinvigorated with life. The energy she had previously expended felt like it was quickly entering her system again now that her slashes were met with quicker movements and even quicker changes in direction and strength. Elyss had lit a spark in her, even if it would likely be short lived. No chance this was going to slip through her fingers.

"Take THAT."

She paled in comparison to Elyss' strength. Despite that, she still tried her best to give her at least something to work with. After all, might not see the captain again knowing how mysterious she had been up until this point. Time to take full advantage.

Ah~ If Elyss could blush, she'd be blushing right now, but flustering the redhead's as hard as changing gender. Though, with the changing times, technology's become rather adept at the oddities, but that's neither here nor there. Junko's here, and for what it's worth, that's all that matters.

Whelp!

"Energetic twerp, huh?" Not getting cut in half also mattered, so Elyss made a show of dodging each slash, gauging Junko's form with each step back.

The girl's not bad for a newbie, but her steps are far from perfect. Each slice is basic, without flavor or seasoning. Elyss wondered if there are any techniques available that'd catch an opponent off guard, whether a feint, some unavoidable mass of attacks at once, or just raw strength and speed. But, that's probably expecting too much from Junko.

So, Elyss raised her hand and simply caught that swinging Zanpakuto. Her eyes narrowed a bit as she thought of some advice, tilting her head a bit with a slightly observative expression.

"Nice. Nice. Try solidifying your feet. Your stance has no backbone. Skipping leg day is bad, so do more squats and muscle building. The power of a swing comes from fluidity, but the strength of that fluidity comes from a strong core. It'll do no good simply focusing on striking when there's no meat to satisfy your opponent."

"Huh."

Junko was perplexed, every swing she sent towards the Captain was met with the exact same reaction, dodge after dodge leaving her with little to gain. Even if it was the expected outcome, Junko would have at least thought she'd give her some serious consideration. Almost out of spite, the girl pressed on only to be met with yet another surprise.

Elyss grabbed onto her Zanpakuto and gave her a look. Look? No, she wasn't really sure what the Captain was doing. Though it was clear she intended to help, Elyss seemed to mostly in thought rather than considering the circumstances at hand. Junko's perplexed state shifted and morphed quickly to one of awe and respect. As expected of the Captain of the seventh.

Doing her best to correct her tone and foot placement, she scrunched her nose and nodded.

"Right. Yes Ma'am. The muscles will take awhile but I can at least listen."

She squared her feet and pulled her Zanpakuto towards the sky, closed eyes following suit. Taking a deep breath, Junko did her best to move every inch of her body in unison, something that someone of her skill level wasn't exactly the easiest. Each muscle twitching in anticipation as she swung downward towards the Captain, doing her best to follow through with her swing. One solid and, albeit messy, swipe towards the fiery red-head followed Junko's rather high pitch squeal. This was embarrassing to say the least, but if Elyss was going to go out of her way to give advice to Junko she wouldn't dare pass up such an opportunity.

Hmm? Well, that's one way to take her advice. Elyss wasn't entirely expectant of Junko to try so hard right off the bat, but the efforts adorable. She wonders if every big wig looked at her the same way, but that's also neither here nor there. Elyss would have reacted differently from Junko if someone had thought or called her adorable.

However, even with putting your all into something, power levels exist and Junko would clash with literal steel as her Zanpakuto tried to dig into Elyss' shoulder. Nothing came of it though as they're both stuck standing there, Elyss treating Junko's attack like a pat on the shoulder than an actual attack.

"Big attack? Those are only good against unaware opponents. Those don't come until after you've master moving with proper footing. I advice obtaining weights and putting them on your wrists and ankles. It'll help your muscles and movement at the same time."

Again with the advice, Elyss was only giving out things she's done to get better at fighting. She wouldn't suggest throwing yourself at big wigs and being absolutely decimated by them, but knowing your place in the world helps with goals. She'll have to see what Junko really wants before suggesting that kinda stuff though.
